Homebrew Croth Species Details
Croths, commonly known as bridge trolls, are purple skinned creatures similar to orcs with pointed ears similar to elves, except that their ears stick strait out from their head. Even though Croths are known as bridge trolls, they have no relation to actual trolls. Croths make their homes under or near their bridges, which they make anywhere they can find a river or hole that needs a bridge over it. Croths are called bridge trolls because of the legends of trolls living under bridges and taking tolls from people who want to cross, while this was actually Croths. Croths make cloths from the hides of random animals they hunt, take them from the bodies of people who didn't want to pay their toll, or steal them from local towns. Croths are not evil creatures, but they are extremely greedy, which is why if someone tries to cross their bridge without paying the toll, they kill the intruder.. As we know croths have a resemblance to elves and orcs, this has been theorized about and people accept the 2 biggest theories. The first theory is that croths were created by union between multiple orcs and elves. The other theory is that Gruumsh and some elven deity had to make a truce at one point and created croths to finalize the truce.
Croth Traits
Unending Greed- A greed that every Croth is born with to take tolls and bribes. Waking Dreams- Croths are still conscious when they sleep and have see-through eye lidsUnending Greed
Any bribe offered to the Croth equal to or above 1 sp required the Croth to make a wisdom saving throw. The default dc for these checks is 8, but it increases every extra 10 sp offered to the Croth. Example, 1 sp is 8, 11 sp is 9, 21 sp is 10, and so on and so forth.
Waking Dreams
Similar to how elves go into a trance to sleep , Croths can sleep similarly where they are still conscious while they sleep. Croths have see through eye lids so they can still see as they sleep. Croths have disadvantage on their passive perception checks if the check relies solely on sight.
