Homebrew Yuggya Species Details

Ah, yes, he travelled with us for some time, asking countless questions about the most normal of things. A bit annoying really, and not just once I swear I saw a tentacle slide across his pale face, or between his fingers out of the corner of my eyes. Normal he was not, despite him insisting on being so.

Yuggya is the name given to the progeny of a mating between a being called Yugg and a Deep One of the Far Realms. The Yuggya has the outward appearance of a pale human, however is not remotely human but has characteristics more of squids and insects.

Aberrant Mind

Although its mind is alien to normal human thoughts and emotions, a yuggya is nonetheless empathic and can use this ability to exploit the emotional weaknesses of its adversaries.

Rarely seen outside the Far Realms, some Yuggya are still sent to Material Plane to gather knowledge, scout or defend some interest there for their Masters.

Scouting Sages

As a result of their alien nature and limited understanding of the Material Plane, yuggya can come across as weird and outlandish. They're curious and inquisitive, often seeking general knowledge and/or information about a very specific field, event or object. Their intent with finding these things are almost never revealed, often being incomprehensible to other species and races. Evil or not, their Masters will seldom send yuggya for obviously sinister reasons, if their reasons are at all understandable for anyone but themselves.

Their behaviour might grate on others, but is seldom cause for more than occasional annoyance as the yuggya's innate empathy is very sensitive to negativity and attitudes that can make their mission harder.

Wielders of Weirdness

The Yuggya is most often a formidable magic wielder with an innate connection to the Great Old Gods, much akin to a warlocks pact. Variety exists though, and depending on which Old God they serve and what mission they're on, this connection may express itself differently from yuggya to yuggya.

Strangers to the Material Plane

Given their origins and relation to the Far Realms, most yuggya have never been to the Material Plane. Almost everything is turned upside down and inside out for them, and a newly travelled yuggya is often very disoriented, confused and emotional when found. After some time they will suddenly stabilize and almost eerily become relatively normal in speech and composure.

Yuggya find almost everything in the Material Plane, like nature, people, societal structure and customs bewildering, but supress these notions to blend in. Sometimes their curiosity will get the better of them and they will exclaim their confusion, enthusiasm or surprise, only to quickly supress it again.

Yuggya Personality

Despite that they're often not very knowledgeable about the plane of existence they're visiting, the yuggya are patient and more often amused than frustrated by their own ignorance. You can select, roll, or adapt a yuggya-specific quirk from the Yuggya Quirks table. Use the quirk to inform how you portray your character.

Yuggya Quirks

d6 Quirk
1 You pronounce words and phrase sentences weirdly.
2 You're always eager to use your newly acquired knowledge about the place you're visiting.
3 You insist that you are a totally normal human, despite gaps of knowledge and other quirks that at the very least betrays your outlandishness.
4 You assume that people are telling you the truth about local customs and expectations.
5 The Material Plane is a strange place, and you catalog all its details in a journal.
6 You're deadly curious, and will go out of your way to find out more about seemingly random and mundane things.

Yuggya Names

Yuggya names were not created to be uttered outside conditions very different to the material plane, and sound alien and are hard to pronounce by other humanoid tongues. If taking on a male form their names typically end with what seems like a consonant, and if female, names end with what seems to be an open vowel. The names spelled out in written common (and other languages) often differ vastly to how the yuggya themselves pronounce it.

Female Yuggya Names: Bhaiombra, Grobb'ithu, Mheltha, Vh'agda, Cthugru, Iactiorvolbhu. Utybrera, Acxumbry, Aiud'ybra, Azelka
