Homebrew Budgiefolk Species Details
Budgiefolk are an established part of cosmopolitan society and are very social creatures. They are charming, flamboyant characters, with brightly coloured plumage on their heads and bodies and a curved, sharp beak.
They are very able fliers and love a good perch on which to gather and peoplewatch. They will seek out company and rarely spend time alone.
Feathers
Budgiefolk are typically yellow, green, light grey or blue in colour with occasional white or black markings on their head, back and wings. Many fashion their head plumage into a crest and love a compliment on it.
Beyond keeping up with the latest fashions, their plumage has little social significance.
Beak
Budgiefolk use their beak for unarmed combat. Their arch rivals are cephalopod creatures and they gain 1d4 extra damage in pecking (piercing) attacks against cuttlefish.
Social Perception
Budgiefolk are extremely chatty and will merrily talk over each other in a group or over others on their company, but are naturally perceptive and will simultainiously be listening to everything that is said by others in a crowd.
Allies
Budgiefolk have a great affinity with giants, especially bearded ones, and will become very loyal companions, regularly seen riding and napping on their shoulders.
Languages
In addition to fluency in Common, Aarakocra and Giant, Budgiefolk can accurately mimic and repeat phrases heard in other languages without comprehending them.
Fears
After many years of exploitation by gangs involved in illegal cargo handling, Budgiefolk developed a fear of dark, confined spaces.
This fear remains and they will become Frightened in the face of such situations, despite the practice of budgie smuggling being socially outlawed some decades ago.
Reflection
The gaze of Budgiefolk becomes fixed on sighting a mirror, though they can continue in active conversation with both their reflection and those around them. They must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw to break away from the reflection. This isn't necessarily seen as a disadvantage to those who like to preen for hours.
Musical Ability
Budgiefolk are accomplished singers and musicians but can be sarcastic with it, being of a size to master the world's tiniest violin.
