A Lost Civilization

An ancient people thought to have been lost to history, due to their civilization being struck by a "Great Calamity" leading their majestic city to fall into the ocean. There are many theories on how the civilization fell, some claim they were punished by the gods due to their hubris or possibly destroyed themselves with their own power, the modern Atlantean either do know or refuse to reveal why. In the old myths, it is said they created great machines of underwater boats and flying chariots. What is known is that the Atlanteans are tied to the Heart of Atlantis, it is a living crystal-like structure that grants the Atlanteans their power and they can not live without it as it sustains their life force. Each Atlantean keeps a small piece of the Heart that has been passed down from their ancestors on them to remind themselves how connected they are to the crystal,  however, since the Heart's essence flow through them, the fragment is unneeded (although it is believed that at one point the fragment was necessary for their power to be used). Atlanteans for many years forgot how to read and write, however in recent years Atlanteans have begun to re-learn, and many are becoming interested in the outside world and are leaving Atlantis to learn new things or to go on adventures.

The Heart of Atlantis

Atlanteans worship water and deities connected to water. The Heart is so central to their culture it is often seen to an outsider its veneration is akin to the worship of a god. Not only does the Heart give the Atlanteans power, but it is believed that after an Atlantean dies, their soul becomes one with the Heart, thus the Heart possesses the souls of their ancestors.  When Atlantis is in danger the Heart will possess one member of the royal family as its host, to release its full power, however, this often leads to the death of the possessed. The Royal bloodline is very important to the Atlantean culture, as they are the only ones who can activate the full potential of the Heart of Atlantis, their royalty is almost never questioned, this is because the bloodline was chosen by the Heart.

Appearance

The Atlanteans have dark skin tones and their hair is usually white or other light-colored hair. Atlanteans often have blue tattoos representing their connection to the Heart. Atlantean fashion almost always has shades of blue somewhere in their dress, but other colors are not uncommon (normally gold, orange, and green). 

Age

Atlanteans live for a very long time, many believe they are immortal, but in truth, they age by one year every 300 years, many live to over be 20,000 years old. 

Alignment

Atlanteans are not used to questioning the authority of their monarch and have not yet fully shaken off their mistrust of outsiders unless they have spent time in places populated by other races. Atlanteans often do what they believe is the right decision at the time and question the morality and consequences later. Atlanteans tend to be Good or Neutral aligned.

Telepathy

You can telepathically speak to any creature you can see within 30 feet of you. You don’t need to share a language with the creature for it to understand your telepathy, but it must be able to understand at least one language. You can speak telepathically in this way to one creature at a time.

You have resistance to psychic damage.

Heart of Atlantis' Healing

As an action, you can touch a creature and cause it to regain a number of hit points equal to your level. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest
