Homebrew Draa'zekyl Species Details
The curious, and quite possibly only, child of a Dragonborn and an Elf; a strange twist of fate produced something exotic.
As a child of a Dragonborn, a Draa'zekyl's visible traits are mostly their Elven ones, but at a closer glance, their dragon scales are seen in patches, sometimes on their arms and legs, and sometimes on their torso. The scales reflect the dragon heritage, as do the eyes. Body and facial features, however, closely and strongly resemble the Elven heritage. In addition, there are also instances where the Draa'zekyl will sprout horns, like a Dragonborn, but they won't grow to full size, sometimes allowing the outside world to mistake them for younger Tiefling.
Inherent to the Draa'zekyl is the breath attack from the dragon heritage, and also the addition of dark vision from their Elven blood. Should a Draa'zekyl be the offspring of a Drow and a Dragonborn, the child suffers from the sunlight sensitivity from their Drow heritage.
Draa'zekyl Traits
You are an exotic mixture of two races that aren't normally found together in the world. You have inherited some traits from each parent, but you have dominant traits from either your Dragonborn parent or your Elven parent.Ability Score Increase
From your mixed blood, you are granted several bonuses to your ability scores, depending on your dominant parent.
Age
From their Elven heritage, Draa'zekyl have unnaturally long lives. Living until they are nearly 500 years old, they generally aren't seen as mature until somewhere in their late second century of life - usually 180 years old.
Alignment
Draa'zekyl are rarely around civilization enough to become terribly influenced one way or another, choosing, often times, to stay on the fringes of society, becoming involved only when absolutely necessary. They tend to remain neutral. That can hinge upon whether they were raised by their Dragonborn parent, their Elven parent, or both.
Size
Ranging from a meager five-and-a-half feet, to almost seven feet, a Draa'zekyl takes on the height of their dominant parental visage.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision
Your eyes, although draconic in appearance, have retained their Elven ability to see in pitch black, as if it were dim light.
Draconic Ancestry
You have draconic ancestry. Choose one type of dragon from the Draconic Ancestry table of the Dragonborn. Your breath weapon and damage resistance are determined by the dragon type, with variations due to your Elven blood.
Trance
Your Elven blood doesn't require you to sleep. Instead, you can meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common, Elven, and Draconic.
Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards learn their language so they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.
