Homebrew Slimefolk Species Details
A knock on the door of his study, the wizard Galtric quickly moved to the door to answer. When the door opened, it revealed an adventuer, who gave a small wave.
"Oh! You must have seen the posting. Come, make yourself at home," Galtric invites, before heading back up to their study to make some finishing touches on their project.
The adveuturer went and grabbed a seat, and seconds later, heard a rhythmic squelching on the floor. Worried, they raise their guard, up until they see what caused it- a humanoid, made entirely of ooze, like the monsters they have fought so many times before.
The slimy humanoid smiles and gives a bow to the adventurer. "Hi! Do you need anything while Galtric finishes up?" It asks them, as if it didn't notice the confusion on their face.
Often thought of as dumb and gluttonous, Slimefolk are a race of oozes which, for one reason or another, have gained the sentience other humanoid races share. In worlds where they come about through natural means, it most often happens through the greater amount of food in a humanioid society enticing the evolution of humanoid forms within such a society, which led to their eventual gaining of sentience. Other worlds may have different origins as well, such as through magical experimentation.
Humanoid Physical Features
When first adopting humanoid forms, slimes also evolved more humanoid features, to better fit in. First among these included features such as eyes, ears, noses, mouths, and legs. As time went on, these features eventually evolved actual functions, much like those of a normal humanoid.
Some groups of slimefolk also developed features of humanoid apperances. Most often happening in groups who fed upon humanoids themselves, rather than just their food, it was sometimes found that more muscular, attractive, or cuter apperances were more effective. They could more easily get food from other humanoids, or in more malicious cases, lure humanoids into vulnerable positions, to be attacked and consumed. As the new race achieved full sentience, these predatory tendancies all but completely disappeared. However, communities who were victim to them tend to be at best suspicious of slimefolk.
Society & Culture
Due to the circumstances of their origin, slimefolk usually have no culture or society to call their own. They assimilate the cultures of where they grew up, only vary rarely forming societies of their own. Despite all this, the natural urges and tendancies slimefolk inherit from their ooze ancestors creates a disconnect between them and other humanoids.
Slimefolk Traits
You have certain traits in common with other slimefolk.Ability Score Increase
Slimefolk are hearty and versatile. Your Constitution score increases by 2, and one other ability score of your choice increases by 1
Age
Slimefolk are not known to age under natural circumstances, and are considered adults when they fully form.
Alignment
While slimefolk can and do encompass all the different alignments, their fluid nature and relation to their mindless ancestors cause them to lean towards chaotic and neutral alignments.
Size
Slimefolk range from just over 4 feet to just under 8 feet tall, encompassing a wide range of different sizes. Additionally, their body may expand or contract while performing certain actions. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your viscous body moves slower than most humanoids can. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.
Ooze Body
As an oozemorph, your body is translucent, partially fluid, and malleable. You can move through a space large enough for a creature two sizes below your own without squeezing. Additionally, you do not need to breathe.
Your creature type is both Ooze and Humanoid, and you can be effected by spells or abilities which target either type.
Engulf
By forcing a creature, object, or food into your amorphous body, you begin to dissolve it. As an action, while you are grappling a creature of your size or smaller, you may attempt to engulf them. To do so, make another grapple check against the creature. If you succeed, they are engulfed by you. You no longer need to use a free hand to continue grappling the creature, and the creature can't breathe, is restrained, has total cover from attacks and effects outside of you, and takes 1d6 acid damage at the beginning of each of your turns. This damage increases to 2d6 at 5th level, 3d6 at 11th level, and 4d6 at 17th level.
Alternatively, you may instead use an action to engulf an object or a dead creature you are holding. Any nonliving organic matter engulfed by you is completely dissolved within 1d4 hours. Digesting something in this way counts as eating it, meaning that it can provide sustenance, and you are subject to any diseases or poisons it has that would be contracted through eating it. Inorganic
You can have only one creature engulfed at a time. If you attempt to fit through a space smaller than the creature or object you engulf could fit through, it is expelled to an open space within 5 feet of you. The same happens if your size changes to a smaller one, such that you become a size smaller than the creature or object you are engulfing, if you die, or if you're engulfing a creature and they break free of your grapple. Additionally, while you're not incapacitated, you may expel a creature or object from your body, causing it to land in an empty space within 5 feet of you (no action required).
Malleable Size
Your amorphous body can change in size, however, it takes quite some effort to do so. Once you reach 5th level, you may cast Enlarge/Reduce once, targeting yourself. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for this spell. You regain the ability to cast this spell upon finishing a long rest.
Adhesive Body
The ease at which a slimefolk's body can adhere to objects can be used to your advantage, allowing you to more easily perform feats of strength. You gain proficiency in Athletics.
Slimy Resilience
Your slimy form renders diseases and poisons less effective against you. You have resistance to poison damage, and advantage on saving throws against poison and disease.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
