Homebrew Changeling (Variant) Species Details
A changeling can shift its face and form with a thought. Many changelings use this gift as a form of artistic and emotional expression, but it’s an invaluable tool for grifters, spies, and others who wish to deceive. This leads many people to treat known changelings with fear and suspicion.
Changeling (Variant) Traits
Your changeling character has the following traits.Ability Score Increase
Your Charisma score increases by 2, and your Dexterity increases by 1.
Age
Changelings mature slightly faster than humans but share a similar lifespan—typically a century or less. While a changeling can transform to conceal their age, the effects of aging affect them similarly to humans.
Size
Changelings can alter their forms but for their natural form they vary widely in height and build, from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet tall. Regardless of your position in that range, your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Monstrous Being
Due to your monstrous nature, your creature type is both humanoid and monstrosity.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
Darkvision
Thanks to your monstrous blood, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Changeling Instincts
You gain proficiency with one of the following skills of your choice: Deception or Stealth.
Natural Resistance
You gain resistance to Acid damage.
Inanimate Mimicry
You can use your action to polymorph into an object that you have seen. The object can not occupy a space larger than 5 feet and can't be more than 8 feet tall. Your statistics are the same in each form. The transformation has a duration of ten minutes, or until you use a Bonus Action to transform back. However, when you turn into an object, the object's color scheme is always that of your true form. Any equipment you are wearing or carrying isn't transformed. You revert to your true form if you die. You may transform with this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and regain all transformations with this trait after a Long Rest.
False Appearance (Object Form Only)
While transformed, if you remain motionless, you are indistinguishable from the object into which you have transformed, aside from having the color scheme of your true form. While transformed, you have a walking speed of 15ft. You may maintain concentration on a spell while in this form, but can not cast new spells.
