Homebrew Yuan-Ti Species Details

The Yuan-Ti are a snake-like race that live deep within the Tanglewilds. Instead of being bi-pedal like most of the other races, the Yuan-Ti have an extended tail that they use to slither around on, but they do have two appendages from their torsos which serve as arms. While native of the Tanglewilds, the Yuan-Ti are not a very friendly species. They are constantly attacking caravans and other native settlements.  Yuan-Ti are emotionless and deploy such an outlook on their everyday life and in combat. Parents do not spend a lot of time taking care of their young and only keep them around for about 8 years before abandoning them. Their communities tend to congregate around pyramid temples hidden deep within the massive rainforest. Each community is devoted to a different Serpent god. Many communities are at war with each other all in the name of their god. Survival always comes first. Cannibalism isn’t uncommon and the weakest member of a community may be sacrificed for the survival of the stronger.  A Yuan-Ti's scales come in all colors and patterns, much like the snakes that frequent the world. Members higher on the society ladder, however, have exotic colors and patterns.

Yuan-Ti Traits

Yuan-Ti have the following traits:

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2, your Intelligence increases by 1.

Age

Yuan-Ti can live between 100-120 years. Yuan-Ti mature at about 8 years old due to their parents never wanting to care for them too long.

Alignment

Yuan-Ti care little for law or chaos and are typically neutral evil.

Snake Skin

You are immune to poison damage and the poisoned condition.

Darkvision

You have dark vision for up to 60 feet.

Snake Brethren

You can cast animal friendship an unlimited number of times with this trait, but can only target snakes with it. Starting at 3rd level, you can also cast suggestion with this trait. Once you cast it, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest. Charisma is your psell casting ability for these spells.

Constrict

You may constrict (grapple) a target as an action. It is treated as a 2d6 bludgeoning weapon, which you are proficient with.

Bite

You have sharp snake fangs, which are natural weapons you are proficient with. They deal 1d4 piercing and 1d4 poison damage, and have the finesse property.

Shed Skin

The Yuan-Ti can shed its skin as a bonus action to free itself from a grapple, shackles, or other restraints. If the Yuan-Ti spends 1 minute eating its shed skin, it regains hit points equal to half its hit point maximum.
