Homebrew Vegepygmy Species Details

Exhausted from battle, we covered our dead with large leaves and fronds from the jungle around us, made camp a shot distance away, and fell asleep. When we returned the next day to bury them they had a strange mold covering them, as we approached, beings arose out of our companion's corpses.

— Umbala Quansi

Vegepygmies are fungus creatures that live in simple tribal units, hunting for sustenance and spreading the spores from which they reproduce.

You are able to be a PC vegepygmy. See description in Volo's Guide to Monsters for full description.

Note: You must make intelligence your lowest statistic, and charisma your second lowest.

Vegepygmy Traits

Your vegepygmy character has the following racial traits.

Regeneration

You have a pool of regeneration points equal to twice your level. At the start of your turn, if you are injured you may spend points equal to your constitution modifier to heal yourself.

If you takes cold, fire, or necrotic damage, this trait doesn’t function at the start of the your next turn. This trait functions even when you reach 0 hit points unless you were brought to 0 hit points by cold, fire, or necrotic damage.

You regain 1/4 of these regeneration points per short rest (round up), or all of them on a long rest.

Proficiency Limitation

You cannot learn to use crafting tools other than Woodworking Tools.

Eat by Osmosis

You prefer to eat fresh meat, bone, and blood, but you can absorb nutrients from soil and organic matter. As a result you only need to eat once per week, though you can eat more often if you choose to do so.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age

No one knows how long vegepygmy's live, though they only take six months to mature.

Alignment

Vegepygmies tend toward neutral alignments.

Size

Vegepygmies range between 3 and 4 feet tall and weigh about 30 pounds, less when dry, up to 50 when wet. Your size is Small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Darkvision

Due to your mold nature your entire body is able to take in more light than a standard cerature. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Claws

Because of your claws, you have a climbing speed of 20 feet. In addition, your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Plant Camouflage

You have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks you make while in any terrain with ample obscuring plant life

Languages

You can speak Vegepygmy and understand, read, and write Common.  You cannot speak Common as you lack vocal chords, though through much effort you have learned a number of words equal to your level +1. At level 1 you know two words, your name is one of them.
