Homebrew Dogtaur Species Details

Dogtaur, being seen sometimes as monstrosities and other times as faithful companions, typically live in their secluded tribes. Roamers do exist and often travel alone.

Fluffy Warriors

Centaurs have humanoid upper bodies, save for below the waist and above the neck. Their heads are that of their assigned breed, as are their legs and other appendages, but their chest/upper body are anthromorphic versions of the animal.

Tribes and Wanderers

The Dogtaur typically live in their tribes, either hidden in forests, mountains, or other areas. They help each other survive and rarely venture out unless special circumstances arise. Their tribe's symbol is always magically tattooed onto their fur in a spot where it will be visible.

Wanderers are those who left their tribe or were born outside of it. If they left their tribe, they have their tattoo. If not, they either do not have the tattoo to mark them or they were given their parent's tribe's tattoo.

Dogtaur Names

Names that the Dogtaur take are usually dependent on where they are from. Tribal Dogtaur have names that resemble their place in the society; Trace for trackers, Swift-Strike for warriors, Trueshot for hunters, and so forth.

Wanderers can be given names that resemble their parents or their own former tribe. Alternative names also include standard humanoid names, or other Dogtaur based names: Rex, Mia, Fang, Spot, etc.

Dogtaur Traits

The following traits are shared by player characters who are Medium Dogtaurs (base race).

Ability Score Increase

Either your Strength score or Dexterity score increase by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age

Dogtaurs enter adulthood around the age of 3, and live to around 25 years.

Alignment

Dogtaur alignments depend on how their tribe raised them, or how they grew up alone (depending on your background).

Size

Your size is Medium, but how tall you are depends on your breed. Medium Dogtaurs typically range from 5'-6' tall.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 40 feet.

Bite

As a bonus action, you may bite an enemy with your teeth. The damage is 1d6+STR.

Enhanced Nose

Your canine nose is stronger than other humanoids. You gain advantage on Perception checks relating to smell.

Canine-esque Build

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push or drag.

In addition, any climb that requires hands and feet is especially difficult for you because of your hooves. When you make such a climb, each foot of movement costs you 4 extra feet, instead of the normal 1 extra foot.

Finally, a Small or smaller creature can ride on your equine back if you allow it. In such a situation, you continue to act independently, not as a controlled mount.

Survivor

You have proficiency in the Survival skill.

Hybrid Nature

You have two creature types: humanoid and monstrosity. You can be affected by a game effect if it works on either of your creature types.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Canine.
