Homebrew Awakened Undead Species Details

The Undead are known for their lack of intelligence and undying determination to kill all that which is not already dead. Throughout the lands they are considered evil beings with no soul left to maintain its morality and an existence whose only purpose is to cause suffering and haunt ancient ruins and guard forbidden places. But not all undead are so mindless, there are a rare few who maintain their intelligence beyond the grave, able to keep their soul bound to their body through some great obligation or strong emotions that connected them to the world even as their body rotted away. This existence is known as an Awakened Undead, and they are exceptionally rare, as even when they pop into existence the likelihood of them staying alive is unlikely because the common folks fear of the undead causes them to be hunted down and destroyed most of the time. But sometimes, maybe, just maybe, they find a way to hide themselves from society, either by blending in or cutting themselves off from the rest of the world.

An awakened undead is often mistreated and perceived as a lesser being which often results in them being evil. As a being that retained their intelligence through some strong obligation or emotions, they are also often Lawful.

Undead Existence

You are an Undead creature with no physical needs. You do not need to eat, drink, or breathe and are unable to sleep. When you take a Long Rest, you go into a state of inactivity for 8 hours in which you are aware of what is around you but do not move. Additionally, you are immune to Disease and the Poisoned condition.

Necrotic Vision

As a being sustained by necrotic energies, your vision is also supplied and enhanced by this power. You have Darkvision out to a range of 60 feet.

Age

As an undead, you do not technically age and suffer no negative effects from aging.
