Homebrew Axoloian Species Details
"At first when I crashed upon the shores of the magma filled isles, in what I thought to be my last waking moments I saw strange blue and pink figures with fire spouting from their scaled heads. I thought they to be monstrous beasts of the sea as I closed my eyes, but when I awoke again in the comforts of a humble hut by the black sand shores surrounded by smiling faces, I learned I was sorely mistaken! Why I reckon without their kindness I would be kraken chowder!"
Axoloians are young in terms of race, only being theorized to have existed for a few centuries. They are the result of what happens to a lucky group of Triton when directly exposed to the fire and flame of the plane of fire. Instead of facing death, they evolved.
Island Dwellers
The Axoloians often find themselves creating their villages on the shores of a sandy island. Half of their buildings reside on the land, while other more communal buildings are nestled in the safety of the sea. These villages are quite quaint and often made from the wood of palm trees and other sturdy bark from the flora of the island. The buildings submerged in the sea are often built of mama rock and stone and built into the side of sea cliffs of a steep coast. All of their food, supplies, and livelihood comes from whatever the island provides.
These islands often were also shared by active volcanos, which the Axoloian deeply respect. They believe volcanos to be an embodiment of life and death and the natural cycle. The volcanos consume life in a fiery blaze. In its wake nutrients are given to the ground, and the frozen magma makes new land.
Seafarers and Voyagers
Axoloians settle in large archipelagos, the island's mile apart from each other. It is a tradition that when an Axoloian reaches maturity, they and others who also have reached age depart gather alongside the whole village at the end of the month. A large festival is held throughout the day, from dawn to dusk. They feast in grand luaus, holding competitions and friendly spars. At the start of the next day, on the new month, everyone gathers at the shores and brings forth a new sea vessel. They send off the newly adult axolioans with enough food and water for a week and send them off to sea.
These voyages are not only for the Axoloian to prove themselves as a fully grown adult, but to discover new materials and land for the tribe. If this new land is deemed habitable by the head of the village, the ones who discovered the new island have the honor to lead a new expedition to start a new settlement, the head of the new village decides by trial by combat.
Honorable Kin
Axolians are taught to show honor and respect at a very young age. To fight to honor a cause and or a people is seen as the noblest thing one can do. They are taught to be open to Axolian and other races and to keep an open mind until a slight is made against them or the person is proven to be dangerous. If they do believe someone to be immoral, they are to defend themselves and their tribe.
Axolians also often challenge each other to spars in the center of their village to prove their strength. In these spars using dirty tactics can be seen as abhorrent. However clever tactics are fine, which tends to make what's considered unfair or not very biased and leads to many debates.
Showing disrespect to another, especially an elder can be heavily frowned upon. If the leader of a village is shown disrespect from someone younger than them, they can hold a discussion with the village elders and choose to punish them as they see accordingly, or even exile the axoloian off the island.
Born Adventurers
Axolians often find themselves taking up the role of an adventurer. The two most frequent causes for an Axolioan to adventure is that they were exiled off the island. The other is they developed a wanderlust after they completed their voyage, and wish to continue to explore lands further than their island. They enjoy seeing the greater world and fighting finding something to fight for. Most seek the company of others that share similar values and goals to travel with. Rarely do they choose to travel the world alone.
