Homebrew Black Pudding Species Details

Walking in two worlds but truly belonging to neither, half-oozes have what some say are the best qualities of their human parents: human curiosity, inventiveness, and ambition, but are amplified by the raw hunger of an ooze. A few half-oozes live among humans, set apart by their emotional and physical differences, watching friends and loved ones age while time barely touches them. Many half-oozes, unable to fit into society, choose lives of solitary wandering or join with other misfits and outcasts in the adventuring life.

Odd and almost alien

To humans, half-oozes appear to be very pale humans, and to oozes, they smell like food. In height, they’re on par with humans, though lack the musculature most humans can gain. They range from under 5 feet to about 6 feet tall, and from 100 to 180 pounds, with men only slightly taller and heavier than women. Half-ooze's do not grow hair. Half-ooze coloration and features are roughly like humans, though they possess very pale skin and oddly translucent eyes, hallmarks of their Oooze heritage.

Hungry and Hunting

Half-oozes have no lands of their own, and rarely live among Humans and other races. They are viewed with some concern and mistrust by humans, while they are hunted by Oozes as much as any other humanoid. They enjoy the company of other half-oozes, the only people who truly understand what it is to live such a life.

In most parts of the world, though, half-oozes are uncommon enough that one might live for decades without meeting another. Most half-oozes prefer to avoid company altogether, wandering the wilds as trappers, foresters, hunters, or adventurers and visiting civilization only rarely. Much like their human parents, they enjoy improving themselves while seeking more power, though their ooze nature causes them to constantly seek more and more, occasionally sending them into vicious cycles of satiation and hunger that can erode a half-oozes sense of self.

Size

Half-oozes are about the same size as humans, ranging from 5 to 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Due to your more viscous composition, your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Sticky Hands

Due to the innate nature of your heritage, a sticky surface can be developed over your body, allowing you to climb surfaces at a speed equal to your walking speed.

Blindsight

Thanks to your ooze gelatin, you have the ability to 'see' without your eyes. You have blindsight out to 60 feet.

Disturbing Biology

Thanks to your ooze heritage, you are significantly more durable than the average humanoid. Your blood is more of a jelly than a liquid, making you take longer to die. Half-ooze's require 4 failures in death saves to die, instead of 3. Also, a half-ooze that loses a limb may spend a short rest holding the limb to its stump, allowing them to 'reattach' it, though the half-ooze cannot benefit from spending hit dice during that short rest.

Semi-amphorous

Due to the amorphous nature of Ooze, you are capable of squeezing into spaces for creatures one size smaller than you without incurring the normal penalties.

 

 

 

(As a Medium creature, you can squeeze into a Small creatures space without it counting as half movement, or taking disadvantage on attack rolls or dex saving throws. Enemies still gain advantage on attacking you while you remain in the small space.)

Ooze Ancestry

You have resistance to acid damage, thanks to the ooze gelatin in your blood, and you do not require sleep.

Extreme Acidity

Your parent was the most acidic of all recorded Ooze types, the feared Black Pudding. As such a being, your acidic nature is significantly more pronounced compared to other half-oozes, bestowing a number of benefits.

• Your unarmed strikes deal 1d4 acidic damage, as you coat your fists with very potent acid.
• Your body is capable of ingesting metals, wood, and even bone, digesting it just like any flesh or vegetable.
• You can focus your acid into your palms, allowing you to melt and dissolve 2 inch thick nonmagical wood or metal over the course of 5 minutes.
