Homebrew Spiderkin Species Details
The Spider People
A humanoid torso on a spider abdomen, three pairs of pupil-less eyes, skin of exotic color patterns, and long black hair tied in an intricate pattern. Those are the most remarkable characteristics of the Spiderkind. Often confused with the evil Driders, the Spider people do suffer from their quite monstrous appearance and their affiliations with the goddess Lolth.
Spiderkind are indeed children of Lolth, but they chose to renounce their godly mother and fled to the material plane, in which they will hide in caves, sometimes in the Underdark, and very rarely in a community that accept them despite their monstrous origin. This latter case is even more rare due to the fact that they tend to not feel at ease amongst non-spider-like creatures.
Unless they expect regular visitors, their home is generally completely webbed-up, in which they can circulate at ease.
Hatred for the Queen of Spiders
Spiderkind profoundly hate their mother. Nobody, not even Lolth herself, really knows where that visceral hatred comes from. Some speculate that another god instilled this ressentment in the Spiderkind, while others pretend that the Queen of Spiders just made a mistake. In the end, the Spider People hate Lolth and Drows and will prove to be quite violent towards anybody comparing them to the dark elves and their common mother.
Spiderkind Names
Even though most of the Spider-people show feminine traits, Spiderkind do not give any importance to gender, and tend to have neutral names. Those names are mostly elven, and some can give themselves a nickname, or if they live in a community they would generally adopt a local name to help them fit in.
Spiderkin Traits
As a half-spider-humanoid creature, you gain access to some abilities that can be considered game-breaking in an early stage of the game : ie. climbing on walls and ceiling without penalty. I encourage you to speak with your GM about this choice of race to see if it fits their campaignAlignment
They fled the Spider Queen because of her cruelty, thus they tend towards Good. But they inherited from Lolth a tendency to no abide by the rules, thus being generally Chaotic.

Posted Jul 2, 2019This is such a cool idea for an interpretation of spider people but how is weapons and armor affected by this race?

Posted Jul 30, 2019Hello ! Sorry for the long wait.
Concerning Weapons : having a humanoid torso, they can use any kind of weapon.
concerning armor : I would say that they need to ask a blacksmith for an armor tailored to their spider abdomen. Their torso is humanoid and can use any kind of standard armor. Personnaly, I would say that as long as a character doesn't have an abdomen armor but a torso armor, attacks from the back ignore the effects of their torso armor.
