Scaled Hide
Dragons are unable to wear normal armor and thus rely mainly on their natural armor instead. Special armor is able to be crafted for them specifically but only rare metal or magic armors are considered better than their natural scales. Dragons have natural armor based on their age listed below.
- Wyrmling: 15 + dex modifier (Max +2).
- Young Dragon: 16 + dex modifier (Max +2).
- Adult: 17 + dex modifier (Max +2).
- Ancient 18 + dex modifier (Max +2).
Dragon Growth
Dragons grow explosively based on how much wealth they are around. To a dragon, gold and precious gems aren’t about wealth but more of power in their growth. A dragon can grow much faster depending on their surroundings and how much wealth they live near. This is why dragons strive for large and wealthy hordes. A dragon can grow very quickly compared to normal races in this way. This is why your dragon age will be based on your player level.
In addition to your size growing, you gain 5 more flight speed upon each growth stage.
- Level 1-5: Medium Wyrmling (1x1 token)
- Level 6-11: Large Young Dragon (2x2 token)
- Level 12-16: Giant Adult Dragon (3x3 token)
- Level 17+: Gargantuan Ancient Dragon (4x4 token)
Shape Changer
Dragons are able to change their shape at will as a bonus action. They can change into a humanoid version of themselves of their choosing, however they can only turn into a single humanoid form that they can adjust with minor modifications. In this humanoid form they lose their flight, their size becomes medium or small depending on which humanoid they turn into, they lose their natural weapons, their natural AC, and they lose their breath weapon. A dragon in humanoid form no longer suffers disadvantage from attack rolls from being in dragon form. Any equipment you wear in either form is transformed whenever you shapechange and returns to normal when you retake that shape. Your ability scores and health all remain the same when changing to your other form. Whenever you die, not drop to 0 hp, you revert to your true form as a dragon. You regain the ability to use your racial abilities when you revert back to your dragon form.
Natural Predator
The Dragons Unarmed attacks are considered Weapons for the use of Fighting Styles and certain Spells and as unarmed attacks for monk features. As such, dragons are unable to wield weapons properly in their dragon form. Dragons have disadvantage on all attack rolls while wielding a weapon besides their natural weapons. Reach for these weapons is 5ft, the reach improves to 10ft when the dragon grows to an adult and ancient dragon.
When you reach level 5, your natural weapons become magical weapons for the sake of overcoming resistances.
