Homebrew Apex's Draenei Species Details
This is MY PERSONAL TAKE on the Draenei race from the World of Warcraft game. Don't get mad at me for tweaking a couple of things to fit them into DnD as it's all subjective. Enjoy.
Origins
The Draenei (meaning Exiled Ones in their own tongue) were originally called the Eredar who hailed from a planet called Argus. But due to growing corruption in the ruling Tribunal, The Prophet Velen (one of the Tribunal) had a vision that the growing corruption would soon consume the whole world. Pleading with the other leaders Kil'jaeden and Archimonde (the other two of the Tribunal), Velen saw that his warning fell on deaf ears. The prophet Velen gathered as many Eredari that he could find and fled the world on a vessel capable of dimensional travel. The vessel's name was "The Exidor" and resembled more of a floating city with many purple crystal structures than a ship or vessel. Velen could only gather 1000 before Kil'jaeden and Archimonde started killing anyone who would dare defy them and join Velen.
Outraged, Kil'jaeden and Archimonde, Sowar to hunt Velen and his followers across the stars, even if it took 1000 years to finally wipe them out of existence. The Exidor traveled to a planet they called Draenor (Exiles Refuge), this provided safe harbor and a new start for the people now known as the Draenei. A hand full of years later Kil'jaeden and Archimonde and their Burning legion of demons and corrupted Eredari found Velen and slaughtered as many of Velen's people as possible before they could escape. While rushing to escape Velen had to ignore many of the safety protocols that allowed the Exidor to travel and land safely without crashing.
Upon reaching the Material Plan, their vessel crashed landed and was so damaged it would no longer be capable of traveling. It now rests as an unusable reck of metal and purple crystal that will never be serviceable again. It will take many many years to reconstruct, test, and operate a new Exidor. The few Draenei that survived the crash will be stuck here on the Material Plain for a very long time.
Physical Appearance
Draenei can often be confused as Tieflings or blue hairless minotaurs. Though they share some physical similarities, there are many differences. They stand slightly taller than humans on average, ranging from 6 feet tall to just over 8 feet. their skin tone is generally blue but can range from white to dark violet. The Draenei possess cloven hooves and a long smooth tail, which tends to be thinner on females and which can be reinforced with plates on males. They can also have horns of varying appearance or forehead plates on their heads. While males have tendrils growing out from their chin and neck, female tendrils are thinner and grow from behind their ears, though harder to spot as they typically are hidden within the hair. Their eyes glow many shades of white, blue, or purple. When a Draenei dies, the glow fades away. The Draenei were given the [Gift of the Naaru], a blessing bestowed by ancient celestial beings called the Naaru, which all Draenei can manifest in the form of a glowing white, blue, or yellow rune that floats about an inch above their foreheads. All Draenei can tap into this gift to heal themselves or injured allies.
Horns and Hooves
Draenei males are tall with broad and muscular features from their necks to their thighs with very wide shoulders comparable to a minotaur. The females are tall elegant beings that are naturally curvy with a large bust slim waist and thick hips and thighs. Their horns range in size and shape from about 1/2 of a foot in length to great, curling Ram horns easily three feet long in length. Some tend to place ornaments on their horns such as metal rings or sheathe them in metal to protect them from damage. Some of the very high-status figures of society may attach gems to their horns, tails, or armor that gently hover about 1 inch away from whatever they are attached to.
Near hairless, the Draenei have a very strong silky smooth hair on their heads, males can grow fasl hair but it is very rare to see this unless they are in the later years of they're life. Their legs end in strong, cloven hooves. Draenei have long smooth tails that are thicker for males and females have thinner tails. As part of a coming-of-age ceremony; all Draenei must embark on a sort of pilgrimage to prove their worth and abilities to their community. Once this trial is complete, the young adult will place ornamentation on their tail and neck/chin tendrils.
