Homebrew Zophrie Species Details

 

 

The main species of the planet Padoth, the Zophrie are a kinship of human and avian allowing them the innate gift of flight from a young age. The many different species of birds found within the material plane exist within different races of Zophries, melding with a rich and diverse society. 

 

Feathers

Zophries take pride in their species plumage, with feathers lining from the edges of their eyes to their ears. Certain species of Zophrie display more plumage across their foreheads and necks, with this often being seen as a sign of power. Standing upright, Zophries might only reach 5 or so feet tall which visibly small body frames to allow for better flight. Zophries often have plumages of feathers on their wrists and ankles but otherwise have a rather human-like appearance. 

The Zophries are a species gifted with flight through their avian-like wings. The wingspan of a Zophries is dependent on race but each wingspan is adorned with brightly coloured and unique plumages that denote to the individual's species.

Padoth is a planet made of many floating clusters of islands as well a rich ecosystem that spans the surface. The wide variety of locations means that most Zophries spend their days among the air to navigate their day to day lives. Flight is the natural progress of a Zophries life with it being the greatest gift to their species, flightless individuals are looked down upon and often Wing Clipping is as a form of punishment for crimes. 

After the empire's control of the planet, many Zophries began to develop new tools to aid the species in their lives. Many Zophrie own shoes with a fake hallux talon to allow for smoother landing and take off. Despite the nature of the Zophries, many still live on the surface of the planet in areas like the coast and riversides. This mainly due to instinctive avian biology. 

 

Zophrie Mannerisms

Despite their clearly avian ancestor, the evolution of the Zophrie species has lead them to develop much more humanoid like tendencies They communicate through the spoken word as well as raising children until early adulthood instead in family like settings. The Zophrie are a high functioning species with their being social hierarchies and tribal communications. 

 

 

Zophrie Traits

As an Zophrie , you have certain traits in common with your people. Being able to fly at high speed starting at 1st level is exceptionally effective in certain circumstances and exceedingly dangerous in others. As a result, playing an Zophrie requires special consideration by your DM.

Age

Zophries reach maturity by age 18. They live to around 70 or 80, with the loss of flight being an indicator of old age. 

Alignment

Most aarakocra are good and rarely choose sides when it comes to law and chaos. Tribal leaders and warriors might be lawful, while explorers and adventurers might tend toward chaotic.

Aarakocra are about 5 feet tall. They have thin, lightweight bodies that weigh between 80 and 100 pounds. Your size is Medium.
