Homebrew Two Goblins in a Trenchcoat Species Details

The life of a goblin is often brutal and short. Scores of goblins never even earn the dignity of a name, being seen as disposable fodder in the never-ending fight against righteous adventurers. Occassionally, a goblin may break through and become their own adventurer. For others, merely escaping the goblin tribe is not enough; they seek to leave the stigma associated with goblinkind behind completely.

Goblins that take the step to become something more find it necessary to partner up. This provides the immediate advantage of height, allowing them to pass as humaniod. Typically one goblin will act as the "brains" of the operation and take the lookout position. Their partner tends to be a bit dim but strong enough to support carrying the first goblin on their shoulders all day.

The bond between the two goblins must be strong in order for the illusion to work, meaning the two goblins likely worked alongside each other before hatching their escape plan. Many such goblins are from the same brood and thus uniquely attuned to each other.

Of course, merely stacking two goblins on top of each other would not be enough to support the desired transformation. An inconspiciously large coat must be obtained to support the ruse. Hoods and hats are also popular as part of a good disguise.

Goblins in a trenchcoat favor bright, bold colors and patterns, believing that other creatures will be distracted and not notice inconsistencies in their appearance.

Paired goblins are capable of splitting, but over time their symbiotic relationship grows to the point where they can't fathom living without the other. Whether separated or stacked, the two goblins share actions, abilities, and skills. All limited abilities including rage, channel divinity, ki, and spell slots are shared.

If the goblins separate as an action or reaction (see PANIC!) they each retain half of the current points. Both goblins have identical stats and abilities unless you are using the variant option. If the trechcoated figure wields a shield only one individual goblin may benefit from the shield while they are separated.

Collectively, your two goblins in a trenchcoat have the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Constitution score increases by 1 and your Intelligence score increases by 2.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim. You can't discern color in darkness only shades of gray.

The Great Pretender

You have proficiency with disguise kits. You have Advantage on any check made to disguise yourself or convince someone that you are, in fact, just a tall person.

Tougher Than You Look

There is more to you than meets the eye. You gain 1 additional hit point per level.

PANIC!

Once per short rest in response to taking damage the goblins may use their reaction to abandon their disguise and go in two directions at once. This halves the damage taken and grants both goblins the effects of disengage. While split each goblin has half of the remaining hit points. They share the same initiative but are treated as one character with respect to making attacks or casting spells. They cannot regain hit points by any method until they use an action to restack.

Half-Dead

If you have only 1 hit point remaining you fall to the ground as if unconscious. However, you may crawl at a speed of 10 feet.
