Homebrew Tortleforged Species Details
A Reflection of their Inspiration
Tortles, by their very nature, are curious creatures that find pleasure in the little day to day occurrences that they engage in. Caring not for fame and fortune, they live simple but fulfilling lives. Tortleforged, as guessed by their title alone, are mechanical constructs built in the image of these humble nomads. Much like what they are clearly designed after, the Tortleforged seek to live lives filled with excitement. Be it racing dinosaurs through dense jungle peninsulas, or fishing up crabs by their handcrafted shelter.
Specialized Purpose
Each Tortleforged seems unique to one another through the specific specialty it chooses to undertake. One might wish to become the worlds most famous botanist, another might seek to become a master at swordplay, whilst another spends all its time studying the art of tumbling locks. Whilst these minor obsessions they seem to develop don't overtake their entire life, they do enjoy spending a good amount of time on said "Purposes". What elevates them over others in this field is the hollowed out space within their bodies that allows the storage and integration of objects, tools and even weapons. Whatever they seek to master becomes a physical part of themselves, granting them the ability to elevate their skill with these tools even further.
Enigma of their Creators
Nobody is aware of who, or what exactly originally created the Tortleforged or, to what purpose they serve. Does someone have a plan for each and every Tortleforged in existence? Are they all built to carry out a specific function and little else? Where they designed to pay homage to the fantastical nomads that they take the form of? The truth is, nobody exactly knows. All that is known is that if you find a Tortleforged that has similar goals to your own, you'll never find a more trustworthy ally.
Tortleforged Traits
Ironclad shells, mastery in their tools of the trade, and a pension for living life to their fullest.Ability Score Increase
Your Constitution increases by 2 and one other ability score of your choice is increased by 1.
Age
Tortleforged may be slain through horrible accidents or assault, but it is unknown if they reach a point before ceasing function. Most Tortleforged known to the populace are however fairly young and usually are no older than 50.
Size
Much like regular Tortles, they usually stand around 5 to 6 feet tall and usually weigh around 450 pounds on average. Your size is medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Constructed Resilience
You were created to have remarkable fortitude, represented by the following benefits:
- You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage.
- You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.
- You are immune to disease.
- You don’t need to sleep, and magic can’t put you to sleep.
Sentry's Rest
When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you appear inert, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can see and hear as normal.
Tortleforged Specialization
When initially constructed, your body was constructed with two specific compartments for storing objects. One of which is used for storing a tool (within an empty space in your chest), whilst the other is used to store a piece of weaponry (A hidden compartment in your arm, reminiscent to an Armblade). You gain proficiency in one Tool and one Weapon of your choice. Both of your compartments are constructed specifically in order to store each object and you are able to integrate said weapon or tool into your body. As a free object interaction on your turn, you can choose to deploy or stow one of these objects, being able to use them as if they were the chosen tool or object. Neither object can be removed from you by force and you cannot be disarmed whilst wielding your integrated weapon, however you are able to remove and replace either tool or weapon during the course of a short rest, so long as it's for the same type of tool or weapon as your modification is specifically built for it. If you wish to switch your weapon or tool to one of a different type, you can pay a smith or a mechanic in order to do this. Time and gold cost varies from trader, but usually takes 24 hours of work and around 250gp for the service itself.
Natural Armor
Due to your body shape being reminiscent of the Tortles, you are ill-suited to wearing armor. Your Ironclad body provides ample protection, however; it gives you a base AC of 18 (your Dexterity modifier doesn’t affect this number). You gain no benefit from wearing armor, but if you are using a shield, you can apply the shield’s bonus as normal.
