Homebrew Disguiser Species Details

A disguiser can shift into any object, non-living or non-sentient creature with just a thought. Many disguisers use this gift as a form hiding from a predator or using it to sneak up on prey, but it’s a valuable tool for grifters, spies, and others who wish to use for self-gain. This leads many people to treat disguisers as a tool or slaves.

Hidden People

Disguisers are born in secret societies were most things cannot reach or in undiscovered areas.

disguisers are born to one of two paths. you're born in a secret society where you live by hunting prey and hiding from predators in the wild. The other path is that you were captured or breed to be a slave or tool for someone else to use. If you escaped or not is unknown.

In creating a disguiser adventurer, consider the character’s relationships with people around them. Does the character conceal their true wild nature? Do they embrace it? Do they have connections to other disguiser secret societies or are they alone and in search of companions?

Masks

In their natural form, disguisers are slender, small and pale, with colorless eyes and no hair. A disguiser can alter its physical appearance with a thought. While this can be used to deceive others, it is a natural form of expression for the disguiser. A disguiser shift shapes the way others might change clothes. A casual shape — one created on the spur of the moment, with no depth or history — is called a mask. A mask can be used to express a mood or to serve a specific purpose and then never used again. However, many disguisers develop identities that have more depth. They build an identity over time, crafting a persona with a history and beliefs. This focused identity helps a changeling pinpoint a particular skill or emotion.
