Homebrew Draconic Dwarf Species Details

Your race is the product of inter-racial breeding between dragons and Dwarves. Your draconic blood gives you the abilities used by most dragonborn. However, your race is looked down on by other dragonborns, with them refusing to see you as brothers and sisters. You are often raised by Dwarves, due to the dragons' disliking of you. Your Dwarven heritage is less genetic, but is given to you through your upbringing, making you proficient in their skills and tools, but lacking their racial powers.

Draconic Bloodline

In appearance, you are similar to dragonborn, looking very much like dragons standing erect in humanoid form, though they lack wings or a tail, with the only noticeable difference being your size, making you a lot smaller than other dragonborns. The dragonborn have scales of vibrant hues matching the colours of their dragon kin, however, your small, fine scales are dulled, usually brass or bronze in colour, sometimes ranging to scarlet, rust, gold, or copper-green.

Dwarven Upbringing

Your race is often raised by your Dwarven parent, and so your upbringing is not very different from a standard dwarf. You act socially like a dwarf, however, you are often seen as beings of honour by some dwarves, due to your powerful draconic bloodline. Dwarven kingdoms stretch deep beneath the mountains where the dwarves mine gems and precious metals and forge items of wonder. They love the beauty and artistry of precious metals and fine jewelry, and in some dwarves this love festers into avarice. Whatever wealth they can’t find in their mountains, they gain through trade.

Breath Weapon

You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.
