Homebrew True Simulacrum Species Details
“You can wake up now." A voice calls to me. I do not yet know the words he says but they welcome me into the world.
"I did it? I did It!" The voice shouts in jubilation as the strange figure dances around the room, hair a blur obscuring his face.
The figure approached and placed a warm hand on my cheek, “You will be the first of a great many. No child of the gods. A child of man.”
—Memoirs of Dawn, The First Son
The true simulacrums are a remnant of the hubris of man and their lust to create true life where once there was none. In an ancient forgotten tome found in a city now lost an ancient ritual was found. A spell that forms flesh and bone from strange alchemical solutions and grants the vessel formed from this process with a soul. They exist as a person capable of pain and emotion, and born with the innate access to the weave. Built as servitors but given sentience they must find their place in a world they were not built for. A Created can be a simple wanderer, a great warrior, or even a philosopher searching for the meaning of what they were created for.
Hidden Beings
It is said that a true simulacrum could remain hidden amongst society their entire life without truly knowing their own nature. Virtually indistinguishable from the humanoids whose form they take they often find themselves integrated into society as followers and servants to their creators. Seeming of flesh and blood their bodies are actually made of a strange clay like alchemical solution developed to mimic the feeling of life when imbued with the proper spells and magic. The process of their creation is still in its infancy with much information about their creation only being discovered recently in ancient ruins only now being uncovered. This has lead to many failed and lost Simulacrums being discarded, broken and damaged, and many completed simulacrums bearing the scars of their creation. Though free willed and intelligent beings, True Simulacrums maintain a strong and distinct connection to their creator, often following them against their own nature.
Despite being manufactured beings, true simulacrums are living humanoids. Resting, healing magic, and the medicine skill all provide the same benefits to true simulacrums that they do to other humanoids.
Misunderstood Creation
Originally built to be used and discarded true simulacrums have, with their newfound sentience, grown beyond their original purpose. Their creation separates them from their creators and their seemingly unending lives lead to long periods of self reflection. Many of the first true simulacrums have outlived their original masters and have gone off on their own on great pilgrimages searching to understand their original creators and what was their first task. Many hope to find a way to create more of their kind unburdened by the subjugation and servitude that they now face.
Innate Magic
Though most true simulacrums do not have the skills necessary to perform complex magic, each one is touched with a small connection to the weave enabling simple acts of magic by even the most mundane individual. They often also suffer from intense dreams and nightmares from their close connection to extra-planar magic. This magic is a leftover from their complex process of creation and the inability of most of their creators to fully sever their connection to the weave.
True Simulacrum Personality
True simulacrums were built to serve their magical masters. The are created with a purpose designed and excel at that purpose with their masters encouraging them to focus purely on the role given. Their freewill came from the desire to improve the functions of the simulacrums and to grant them more independence when completing tasks given.
The typical true simulacrum has little use for emotions and has developed an apathy that many races find instantly recognizable. In their creation most have developed a strong sense of skill and determination and with the completion of their primary tasks have shown devotion and steadfastness when reaching their goals. Most true simulacrums have little interest in religion as the purpose of their creation is often known, but some embrace faith and mysticism, seeking higher purpose and deeper meaning.
The typical true simulacrum's body is a near perfect imitation of their creator and in so can physically look similar to any race capable of advanced magics. Though their body morphology is that of their creator, they are still subject to physical changes that occur throughout life.
