Homebrew True Vampire Species Details
When a mortal falls prey to a vampire, they die. Though, the vampire can choose to bring their victim back to the world of the living as a spawn, or a vampire can be created with dark magic, either from a mortal seeking immortality, or an entity resurrecting a being as an undead.
Some vampires seek power over those below them, or seek power to rise above others. This usually means that death lies ahead within their journey. The cost of immortality has lead many to feast on the blood of living creatures to sustain themselves, ending in the loss of a loved one or death of many innocents. The choice of becoming a vampire may not have been yours to choose, a higher vampire may have brought you back to serve them or an entity may have made a deal with you, offering your greatest desires. Once you become a vampire, a form of dark magic manifests your body and soul, causing most people to become evil or a ravenous monster.
Though a cure for vampirism may lie somewhere out in the world, there hasn't been any way to cure an individual of their vampirism, many have tried using holy magic to try and remove the curse, but only leads to the vampires death as the soul is bound to the dark magic sustaining the body, and once it is destroyed, so is the soul. This has lead many in the search for knowledge for some, and a desire for more power for others.
True Vampire Traits
A vampire has supernatural strength, agility and a way with words. This allows them to hunt as animals do, almost as if they were a ravenous predator with an insatiable hunger, or seduce unknowing mortals into becoming a blood bag for vampires.Weaknesses
FORBIDDANCE: You can't enter a residence without an invitation from one of the occupants.
STAKE TO THE HEART: If a piercing weapon made of wood is driven into your heart while unconscious, you become paralyzed until it is removed. In addition, if the weapon destroys your entire heart, you immediately die, turning to ash.
SUNLIGHT HYPERSENSITIVITY: You sear and burn in the light of the sun, your flesh immolating. If you end your turn in direct sunlight, you take 20 radiant damage. You also have disadvantage on any attack rolls or ability checks when in direct sunlight.
Ability Score Improvement
Your strength or dexterity increases by 2 (Your choice), and your charisma increases by 1.
Age
Vampires are immortal beings, they do not age past a day of when they died. Your regenerative ability granted to you by your vampirism allows you to live indefinitely until you are destroyed.
Size
Your size is based on your original race, you may be tall and slender if you were an Elf, or Short and stout if you were a dwarf, and so on. Your size is Medium.
Speed
As a vampire, you have supernatural agility, almost that of an animal. Your base walking speed is 35ft.
Undead
Your creature type is considered both humanoid and undead.
Unholy Body
You gain resistance to necrotic damage and slashing, bludgeoning and piercing from non-magical weapons. Healing magic and potions do not heal you, instead, potions deal poison damage equal to the amount that was meant to heal, and healing magic, such as Lay on Hand, or Healing Word, deals radiant damage equal to the amount that was meant to heal.
Blood Drinker
Even though you are undead, you still require sustenance in the form of blood. You do not need to eat or drink normal food or breath, but you can choose to eat or drink, though, some tastes of food are bland and stale.
If you go for longer than seven days without drinking at least one ration of blood, you suffer one level of exhaustion on the midnight of that day, which can only be removed by drinking a ration of blood. After consuming one ration of blood, you recover all levels of exhaustion. If you reach six levels of exhaustion due to this trait, you become incapacitated and paralyzed until you are force fed blood.
A ration of blood is a vial, roughly four ounces. This is enough to sustain you for one week, though you still feel the urge to drink and may appear twitchy or ravenous in the heat of battle or when tending to an ally's wounds. A pint of blood, such as a flask, is considered a healthy amount, enough to keep you sustained while also suppressing you less civilized behaviour.
To heal, a vial of blood restores 1d4+1 hit points, while a pint of blood restores 2d4+2 hit points and a quart (equal to a waterskin) of blood heals for 4d4+4 hit points. Healing this way uses an action during combat.
Attack
BITE: All vampires have retractable fangs that are capable of tearing flesh from bone and draining blood from the body. Using Bite costs an attack action, rolling normally for an attack roll. If you successfully bite a creature, you deal 1d6 piercing damage and necrotic damage equal to your constitution modifier. Drinking blood this way is equal to consuming one ration of blood.
CLAWS: As a vampire, you have a set of claws, which are considered as natural weapons, which you can use to make an unarmed strike. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your strength or dexterity modifier, instead of bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Superior Darkvision
Your Darkvision extends further due to your vampiric nature. You see 120ft of dim light as bright light and darkness as if it were dim light. You can determine shades of colour in darkness, though you can't discern colour, only shades of gray.
Language
You can read, speak and write common and the language of your origin race. Additionally, you also choose one extra language of your choice.
Blooded Vampire
VAMPIRE FANGS & CLAWS: The damage for your bite increase by 1d6 when you reach 5th level(2d6), 11th level(3d6) and 17th level(4d6). Your claw damage increases to a d6 at 5th level, a d8 at 11th level, and a d10 at 17th level. Additionally, when you reach 3rd level, your bite and claw attacks are considered magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance.
SUPERIOR BODY: Once you reach 5th level, you can walk on difficult surfaces, including walls and upside down on ceilings without the need to make an ability check. Additionally, while you are wearing no armor, your armor class equals 12+ your dexterity modifier and your base walking speed increase by 5ft.
Powerful Build
As a vampire, your supernatural body allows you to perform feats that mortals may not be capable of. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
Origin Race
An origin race is the race you were in life. You retain your physical appearance, though you do not gain any ability bonuses from your origin race. You may have been an Elf, Dwarf, Human, Half-Orc, etc.
Flight
As you hone your vampiric skills, you learn to master the ability to fly as a vampire. Upon reaching 11th level, you gain a permanent flying speed of 60ft.
Alignment
Most vampires typically fall towards Lawful Evil, some going mad, becoming crazed with bloodlust. Though, there are those whose will is more powerful than their urge to feast on flesh, maintaining their morals and goals, remaining neutral or good to the world.
