Homebrew Balanced Vampire Species Details

An Unholy Existence

A vampire looks very much like it did when alive, but with paler skin, hardened and feral features giving them a predatory aspect, and red eyes that were hard to forget. Their hands are clawed. Vampires do not cast shadows and do not cast reflections.

A new vampire was created when another vampire drained the life out of a living creature. A humanoid or monstrous humanoid could become a vampire.

Half-vampires could be created in one of two ways. First, in some rare cases, a vampire could consume enough blood that they could breed with a humanoid or monstrous humanoid, creating half-vampire offspring. Second, in even rarer cases, if a pregnant mother survived having her blood drained by a vampire, her unborn could be "tainted" with vampirism instead.

Master vampires were vampires that had perfected the art of taking spawn, and as a result, could lead large gangs of them. They usually had one chosen spawn that was much better than the others. However, all of a master vampire's spawn were better than the norm: stronger, faster, and more numerous.

Immortality from Death

Due to your curse (or gift), you are immortal. You do not age and cannot succumb to death from old age. You can still be killed by normal circumstances. However, to maintain your immortality you must fulfill two distinct requirements.

First, whenever you take a long rest, you must either sleep beneath the dirt of your burial site or from the site at which you were killed in your prior life. This can be accomplished in the form of sleeping in a coffin filled with your burial dirt or as simple as covering yourself in said burial dirt as you sleep. You can only take a long rest in this fashion. If you do not fulfill this requirement you will gain 1 level of exhaustion per day without rest until you perish.

Secondly, in your immortality you have gained an unyielding thirst. At least once a week you must consume the blood of a living creature. After 7 days of not consuming a living creatures blood, you gain 1 level of exhaustion. Everyday you do not consume a living creatures blood after the seventh, you will gain another level of exhaustion until you eventually perish.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common as well as one other language you knew in life.
