Homebrew Alicorn Species Details

Alicorns have been placed on a pedestal as beings of mythical and holy status. They're a people blessed by the elusive unicorn and therefor are revered as untainted angelic symbols of good. 

 

Youthful Appearance 

In their physical forms alicorns shimmer and sparkle in the light, many claim that by just perceiving their form one can hear a faint choir. They generally just appear as tall beautiful humans that never seem to age a day past twenty. But their long ivory horn, horse like ears, soft furred wrists and ankles, their hoofed feet and long horse like tails sharply distinguish them. Alicorns' horns shoot perfectly straight from the dead center of their forehead, while their feet are replaced with hooves. Tufts of fur covers their wrists and ankles, shorter at the wrists and longer by their feet, the same short, soft hair grows to cover their ears and they tend to grow longer eye lashes then most.

Celestial Inheritance 

The alicorn people appear to be hybrids between human and unicorn, however they are not the product of bestiality or through dark magics. They are the product of a miracle created by a great and powerful unicorn. The first ever alicorn was the result of this unicorns attempt at healing a sickened newborn, the unicorn passed its horn down to this child completely healing them of their ailment. This one act morphed the child near instantly into an alicorn, the appearance of a tail and horn were instantaneous, this child then went on to continue their bloodline creating the race known as the alicorn.

Because of their blessed origins alicorns are a difficult race to reproduce, many attempts result in gifted sorcerers or full blood humans. The sensitivity of a celestials genes only left a ten percent chance of the newborn growing a horn, on top of this the original child to have a horn passed onto them, have seemed to affected their genes. The first alicorn was a female and this has drastically reduced the chances of a male alicorn ever being born, only leaving a five percent chance.

Hunted for Sport

The sparsity of alicorns causes many common folk to see them as holy symbols, incapable of having an evil bone in their body. Many nobles take advantage of this visage the public sees them as and uses them to control the average commoner, as the word of an alicorn is the closest to any god they've been to. However many other creatures such as dragons, undead, demons and the like see past this veil of holiness and take any chance they can to severe their horns and use them for healing or the crafting of magical items. Once an alicorn dies their flesh and bones disintegrates into a golden dust, with only their horn keeping its physical form. The remains of alicorns are sold at extremely high prices on the black market and even just the possession of one of these two items is usually seen something only the rich can obtain.

Hierophantic Pressures

The societal pressures placed onto the alicorns manifests itself in a form of impostor syndrome or inferiority complex, this sense of not meeting up to the holy and righteous standards that the public believes they uphold make them very persuadable. However this goes both ways and the public seeing them as a holy visage. They tend to follow in an alicorns suggestions alot easier then they would anyone else, creating a feedback loop of the public fueling their complexes and them feeding the publics perception.

Ability Score Increase

Your Wisdom score and Charisma score increases by 2.

Age

Although alicorns reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, their concept of age is extremely skewed in comparison. Alicorns can live up to around 1000 years and from around 20 to 30 their physical appearance no longer ages with them, they stay youthful throughout the entirety of their lives. A alicorn's body upon death does not decomposed but rather immediately crumbles into golden dust.

Alignment

Most alicorns fall into 2 categories, 1 group of alicorns tend towards a more loving and trusting personality. The 2nd group of alicorns tend towards a more energetic lifestyle, loving everyone and trying everything. They gravitate toward being good, but some have devious streaks and enjoy causing dismay.

Size

Alicorns range from around 6 feet to about 7 feet in height, with generally slender builds. Your size is Medium.

 

Speed

Your base walking speed is 35 feet.

Celestial

Along with being humanoid your creature type is also celestial.

Purity of Touch

Blessed by your celestial origins your touch can purify and heal those around you. As an action you can use lay on hands. You get one lay on hands pool every long rest. If you already have a lay on hands pool through level or feat, purity of touch creates its own separate pool of hit points to draw from.

Magic Resistance

You have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Blessed Ivory

Because of your horn passed onto you by your full blooded unicorn ancestors you can cast mage hand as a cantrip and gain access to a handful of spells by being an alicorn. You gain a number of 'Ivory' spell slots to cast these spells a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, these spell slots function the same as Warlock spell slots and always cast the highest level available. If you are a spell caster already you can cast any spell you know or have prepared with these 'Ivory' spell slots.

1st-level - Mage hand, Detect Evil and Good.

3rd-level - Calm Emotions, Pass Without a Trace.

5th-level - Dispel Evil and Good.
