Homebrew Candied Folk Species Details
Long ago on a secluded island the mad wizard Aknow used his powerful magic to reshape his realm into a place made of candy and sweets. Creating magical constructs of creatures to populate it. These simulacra ranged from insects and animals to even people. After Aknow's demise the gods Lliira and Mystra, impressed by his works and wishing to preserve them, granted true life to the creatures he had created. Thus the human-like constructs became the candied folk.
Magically Delicious:
The candied folk were originally created from candy and other sweets and animated through magic. Now they have a spirit of their own and have a nature closer to other living creatures. Yet magic flows through them and they depend on it to sustain them. They normally do not require food, water or sleep but must rest to replenish their magical connection or else they would be unable to heal or maintain their form from breaking down from exposure to the elements.
Colorful Characters:
Candied folk are similar to humans in size and shape but their appearance is very different. A candy folk is born as a semisolid gelatinous humanoid and can be of any color. As they age they grow a protective skin called a shell. This shell is generally dark brown, golden or bright white but can be of any known color. This shell also usually is multicolored, it's base color covered with other shapes or patterns. Stripes, spots, swirls, and half and half are all relatively common. However, more elaborate patterns like splashes, stars, even paisley and flowers have been seen. And a candy folk may possess more than one pattern on their body with multiple patterns separated, combined or overlapping. They do not possess hair but their shell will generate additional growths that may be just as hard or very soft that resemble candy or baked goods that give a resemblance of hair or a hair style. Sometimes these growths will generate in other areas and they may exude an odor similar to their appearance. However even solid colored candied folk have face markings. These face markings are just as brightly colored as their body markings and range in complexity. They may resemble a noble makeup or rivle the most garish carnival masks. This colorful appearance often and ofton friendly nature leads most to believe candied folk are human jesters in elaborate makeup. A viue that some candied folk use to their advantage.
Joy and Wonder:
Living on a secluded island, blessed with abundant resources and without the need of many to begin with, candied folk live a simple and happy life. They spend the majority of their days perfecting art and music, or engaging in song and dance. Greed, hate and war are unknown on their island and difficult for them to understand. Although ambition and competition are not. To an adventuring candied folk most of the world is as foreign in nature to them as the deepest oceans or furthest planes would be to a present farmer. As such their nature tends to be naive and inquisitive, taking joy in each new discovery.
