Homebrew Ancient Nomad Species Details

In a time before written language, there were many tribes of hunter gatherers. While harsh and full of dangers, their world was a simple one of survival. Then a traveling Shaman named Ilden visited as many tribes as he could find. He would appear harmless at first, talking about leaving his own tribe to live a life of discovery. Many would grow suspicious when he would speak of finding immortality, and regretting the need for testing. He would try and teach people about the ethereal plane and existing there and the material plane at the same time. Before anyone could stop him, however, he would work his new and strange magics on the entire tribe, killing any who resisted. Pieces of every tribe members’ body seemed to disappear at random as he waved his hands and chanted. Edges where limbs had disappeared appeared pitch black, as though the revealed flesh was coated in shadow. After he left, people discovered that missing parts of their body seemed to function despite not being present. If they tried to touch where it should be, their hand passed through, but nobody seemed to have any ill effects. Those whose eyes had vanished could see better, those with missing legs could still stand as though the legs were there, and those with missing hands could still grasp objects as normal. He would use charcoal to make odd markings on something he called his "notes", then walk away, never to be seen by that tribe again. The effects of his experiment passed from one generation to the next, but each generation seemed less effected than the last. In later times, there are not even stories about what he did, but for these people, the effects have simply become part of every day life.

Where you were there when Ilden visited your tribe, or a child of someone who was, his experiments have caused a portion of your body to exist partially on the ethereal plane. This body part appears to missing, leaving a black shadow where it connects to the rest of your body. The missing parts cannot be interacted with by the material plane, but still function as normal despite this. Your missing body part cannot be severed or removed. Your subrace determines what part is missing, and how it benefits you.

Effective Communicator

You are use to interacting with people from other tribes or even other races, whose language varied from own. Whether the difference is a few words, or an entire language, you can convey meaning through gestures and facial expression. Any creature with an intelligence score of 8 or higher can understand basic concepts and emotions you wish to communicate with them.

You speak Ancient Common, but cannot speak or read any other languages without some form of training (usually a feat)

Ancient Nomads matured at a faster rate, usually by age 15, and did not often live past their early 50's
