Homebrew Dragon Tortle Species Details

The more aggressive cousins of Tortles, they often will find themselves either on a ship or as hired muscle.

Dragon Tortle Traits

+2 Strength, +1 Constitution, Bite, Amphibious, Natural Armor, Steam Breath

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1.

Age

Young dragon tortles crawl for a few weeks after birth before learning to walk on two legs. They reach adulthood by the age of 15 but have a long lifespan, averaging 150 years.

Alignment

Dragon tortles tend to stay neutral in most situations, often doing whatever needs to be done in order to survive, but some lean more towards the evil end of the spectrum

Size

Dragonborn are taller and heavier than humans, standing well over 6 feet tall and averaging almost 250 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swim speed of 30 feet

Bite

Your maw is considered a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Amphibious

You can breathe air and water.

Natural Armor

Due to your shell and the shape of your body, you are ill-suited to wearing armor. Your shell provides ample protection, however; it gives you a base AC of 17 (your Dexterity modifier doesn’t affect this number). You gain no benefit from wearing armor, but if you are using a shield, you can apply the shield’s bonus as normal.

Steam Breath

You can use a bonus action to exhale scalding steam breath. When you use your steam breath, each creature in a 15ft cone must make a Dexterity saving throw. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 fire damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. You can use your steam breath a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you complete a short or long rest.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Aquan and Draconic.
