Homebrew Wendigo Species Details
We had only been in that cave for a day or two when a blizzard rolled over and we were trapped inside, our youngest member was so hungry that he resorted to eating the flesh of our weakest. He wasn't a human anymore, he ate all of them, I managed to get out, but not all of me...
Wendigo are humanoids who were transformed into monstrous deer-like creatures out of the consumption of the flesh of their own kind. Wendigos stand tall and thin, and their flesh is constantly rotting and re-healing, they feast on whatever flesh they can find, especially that of their previous kind. They strike fear into the hearts of their enemies, and once they have the scent of your blood, there is no escape.
Wendigo Physiology
Wendigos are humanoid creatures with typically furry bodies, they typically have deer-like legs and their faces are usually reminicient of the skull of a deer, sometimes even growing out of their old skull. Wendigo are very diverse but you can always expect antlers, rotting bodies, and sharp talons.
Wendigo Preferences
Wendigo, while mostly simple-minded hunters, have their own society and even preferences on what they eat.
Dwarves. “A rare delicacy, dwarves have tough flesh which is fun to eat, shame they're on the... smaller side.”
Elves. “Elves, what is there to say that hasn't been said before? They're tall and tender.”
Halflings. “Halflings, a pretty disappointing meal, I wouldn't even call them an appetiser.”
Dragonborn. “Their scales are hard to bite through, but once you do, man is it good, their flesh has a natural spice to it.”
Humans. “Humans, a staple in the Wendigo's diet, they're diverse enough to be an entire meal.”
Warforged. “I'll admit, i was unhappy the first time I ate a warforged, expecting flesh, it has no nutritional value but its satisfying to crush them.”
The Cure
Wendigo are odd creatures in how they operate, the cure to their curse is any skilled cleric, but theres always a chance that even a cured wendigo can retain the curse and end up turning back into one.
