Homebrew Arundil's Animated Table Species Details
An animated object is a construct, usually with AC, hit points, attacks, Strength, and Dexterity determined by its size.
However, this animated object is based on the Animated Table from Tales from the Yawning Portal, page 230.
Arundil's Animated Table Traits
Your Animated Table has the following traits. A few of the traits give you a choice; consider how your choice reflects the purpose for which your character was built.Ability Score Increase
Your Strength score increases by 2, and Constitution increases by 1.
Age
The particular table inspiring this construct was created 100 years ago, and show no signs of deterioration due to age. You are immune to magical aging effects.
Alignment
These constructs usually follow their creator's orders and would heavily favor law, without much consideration towards good or evil, they tend towards neutrality.
Size
Your size is Large. The height of a table is usually around 5 feet, this race is a quadruped and takes up 2 squares. Weight varies, from 240 lbs to 440 lbs.
Size modifier = 2d6
Height = 4 feet + 6 inches + your size modifier in inches
Weight in pounds = 200 + (20 × your size modifier)
Speed
Your base walking speed is 40 feet.
Senses
Blindsight 60 ft. (blind beyond this radius)
Does not function through total cover. Only functions as Blindsense vs obscured creatures (normally due to hiding or magically due to illusion, abjuration, conjuration, etc.).
Using a bonus action you can open a telepathic link to one creature you can sense, if you open another link this first one closes. Your telepathic utterances are in a language you know, and the creature understands you only if it knows that language. This does not give the creature the ability to respond to you telepathically.
Sounds seem like disturbances through your blindsight, but can still understand speech this way.
Constructed Nature
You were created to have remarkable fortitude, represented by the following benefits:
- You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage.
- You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.
- You are immune to disease.
- You don’t need to sleep, and magic can’t put you to sleep.
Construct Resting
When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you are indistinguishable from a normal table, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can sense as normal.
Charge
If you move at least 20 feet straight toward a target and then hit with an attack on the same turn, the target takes damage of the weapon's type. If the damage type is bludgeoning, and the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. The amount of extra damage is dependent on level:
- 1st - 4th level: 1d8
- 5th - 11th level: 2d8
- 12th - 20th level: 3d8
Quadruped weakness
Due to your larger size and thin legs, any fall damage taken is doubled.
Unless the ends of your table's legs are obscured in some way, you have disadvantage on Stealth checks when walking on hard surfaces, such as stone, brick, or glass.
Any armor worn must be of the Barding type, which is more expensive, and must be attached using Smith's tools.
Weapons and tools can be mounted using Smith's tools on the corners to be used for attacks or non-dexterous skill checks.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
False Appearance
While motionless, you are indistinguishable from a normal table.
Antimagic Susceptibility
You are incapacitated while in the area of an antimagic field.
If targeted by the spell dispel magic, you must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against the caster's spell save DC or fall unconscious for 1 minute.
