Homebrew AIS (Amorphous Intelligent Slime) Species Details

Color Variations

AIS come in many different colors, although color has little meaning.

Formless

In their true form, AIS appear as small blobs of colored viscous fluid.

AIS (Amorphous Intelligent Slime) Traits

Your AIS character has a variety of natural abilities at its disposal

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma score increases by 2, and either your Intelligence or your Wisdom increases by 1 (your choice).

Age

AIS do not age like other species, it is unknown how long their lifespan is.

Alignment

Choose any.

Size

In their natural forms, AIS average between 1 to 4 feet in height. Your size is Small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet. Your base burrowing speed is 10 feet. Your base climbing speed is 20 feet. Your base swimming speed is 40 feet.

Blindsight & Tremorsense

In their true form, AIS have no eyes with which to see. However, they can still perceive their environment out to a range of 30ft. through Blindsight, and a range of 120ft. through Tremorsense. Beyond that they are blind.

Shapechanger

As an action, you can polymorph into a creature you have devoured, or revert to your true form. You revert to your natural form if you die. While in this form you lose access to Ooze Form, Damage Transfer, Liquid Form, and Acidic Form. Your speed, sight, Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution all change to match the creature you take the form of. You also have access to all forms of sight (Darkvision, Tremorsense, Truesight, etc.) the creature had, while losing access to your Tremorsense. You do retain your Blindsight, however. Your clothing and other equipment don’t change in appearance, size, or shape to match your new form.

You decide what you look like, including your height, weight, facial features, the sound of your voice, coloration, hair length, sex, and any other distinguishing characteristics. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, although it must be a creature of small or medium size.

While in this form you may use the natural attacks and physical abilities of the creature whose form you are using (for example if you are a cat you can attack using your claws, or your teeth as a dog). However, you may not use any magical, supernatural, or elemental attacks the creature had.

Even to the most astute observers, your ruse is usually indiscernible. If you rouse suspicion, or if a wary creature suspects something is amiss, you have advantage on any Charisma (Deception) check you make to avoid detection.

In addition, if you fail your saving throw while in a zone of truth, you immediately revert to your true form.

Ambiguous Persona

You gain proficiency with two of the following skills of your choice: DeceptionInsightPerception, and Persuasion.

Stolen Craft

You gain proficiency with one tool of your choice.

Ooze Form

Resistant to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from nonmagical attacks. Immune to acid damage. Vulnerable to cold damage. Immune to the following conditions blinded, deafened, exhaustion, grappled, paralyzed, petrified, prone, restrained, unconscious. You don’t require sleep, however, you must consume something every 24 hours or take a -1 to endurance per day you failed to consume anything. You regain 1 endurance every day that you consume something.

Cold Vulnerability

An AIS that takes cold damage has its speed halved, cannot grapple (a grappled creature is immediately released), and loses Shapchanger until it has warmed back up (30 minutes or until heated).

Damage Transfer

While grappling a creature, you take only half the damage dealt to you, and the creature you are grappling takes the other half.

Liquid Form

You can enter an enemy's space and stop there. You can also move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing. Your movement speed is reduced by half rounded down in cold environments, and you have a -10 to your initiative.

Acidic Form

An AIS body is made up of Acidic fluids that allow them to devour almost anything they touch.

When you successfully grapple a creature, it takes 1d6 acid damage, and can no longer breathe until it breaks free from you. As long as it remains grappled by you, the creature takes 1d6 acid damage at the start of its turn. Additionally, your movement speed is 0 until you release the grapple or until the creature frees itself. As an action, you can eat through the non-magical armor or weapon of the creature you have grappled, and requires 2 rounds to complete (using your action to perform this task during both rounds).

Your unarmed strikes deal an additional 1d6 acid damage.

Any non-magical weapon made of metal that hits you corrodes. After dealing damage, the weapon takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to damage rolls. If its penalty drops to -5, the weapon is destroyed. Non-magical ammunition made of metal that hits you is destroyed after dealing damage. You can eat through 2-inch-thick, non-magical metal in 1 round.

You can eat through most materials with these exceptions: Gold, Glass, Plastic (where applicable), Platinum, Lead, and Mythril.

Natural Armor

When you aren't wearing armor, your AC is 13 + your Dexterity modifier. A shield's benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.

Languages

You can understand any language creatures you have consumed knew (including non-sentient languages Ex. Squirrel), however you cannot speak in your true form.

Internal Storage

Your body effectively functions as a bag of holding that only you can access. However, if your body is placed into an extradimensional space, neither your body nor the extradimensional space is destroyed, and no gate to the Astral Plane is opened. An object can be stored in your body even if it is larger than your body, and your weight is not increased by any objects you carry. If your body is destroyed, any objects inside are destroyed without a trace.
