Homebrew Bahr'am Species Details

Cursed at birth to be confined to a humanoid form, Bahr'am are known to be lesser in the eyes of their kin. To prove themselves worthy, Bahr'am usually become adventurers or explorers, though some settle down as blacksmiths or jewelers.

Their curse cannot be broken by anything short of a wish spell.

Mark of the Dragon

In their humanoid form, Bahr'am can look like any other species, dependent on the one that cursed them. At first glance they are indistinguishable from the race that they are confined to, except a small feature such as: a curse mark on the neck, eyes of the dragon they once were, slight smell of the element they use.

Bahr'am Names

Bahr'am usually don the name of the species they become, however it is also known to keep the names they were given at birth.

Bahr'am Traits

Your draconic heritage manifests in a variety of traits you share with other dragons and nah'tuh.

Humanoid Form

The only thing the Bahr'am share with the humanoid form they are cursed to become are the appearance, size, and speed. The Bahr'am cannot be cursed to become anything with claws, wings, or a breath attack.

Ability Score Increase

Due to the strong curse, the Bahr'am are weaker than the average form they share with others, gaining no ability score increase.

Age

Young Bahr'am grow quickly in their humanoid form. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 4, and reach adulthood by 16. They live to be around 150 if their curse isn't broken.

Alignment

Bahr'am tend to extremes, making a conscious choice for one side or the other in the cosmic war between good and evil (represented by Bahamut and Tiamat, respectively). Most Bahr'am are good, but those who side with Tiamat can be terrible villains.

Their alignment stays the same as their original Dragon Type.

Dragon Type

You retain some of your dragon abilities in your humanoid form. Choose one type of dragon from the Dragon Type table. Your breath weapon and damage resistance are determined by the dragon type, as shown in the table.

In addition to the chosen dragon type, Once per long rest you may temporarily regain part of your dragon form with temporary hit points equal to half the average of your transformation. Example: an Adult Red dragon has 256 average hit points, so when transforming you would instead get 128 as temporary hp.
You use your action to transform, and cannot use any legendary actions.
You cannot gain extra health while in your dragon form by any means, in addition if your hp falls below 0 while in this form you are immediately reverted back to your humanoid form and knocked unconscious and must make a death saving throw.
You can only transform if there is enough free space.
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to turn into a dragon wyrmling for 1 minute per long rest
At 5th level, you gain the ability to turn into a young dragon for 5 minutes per long rest, losing the ability to turn into a wyrmling
At 12th level,  you gain the ability to turn into an adult dragon for 30 minutes per long rest, losing the ability to turn into a young dragon.
At 18th level, you gain the ability to turn into an adult dragon for 1 hour per long rest.

Breath Weapon

You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your dragon type determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your dragon type. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Damage Resistance

You have resistance to the damage type associated with your dragon type.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
