Homebrew Slime Species Details
Slimes are one of the oldest races on record, but the vast majority lack even the most primitive thought process beyond an endless drive to consume. Many lurk in the deepest dungeons of the realm, waiting to stumble upon their next meal, while others hop around on the surface, consuming whatever organic material they see fit. For whatever reason, your slime is different, with an intellect rivaling that of civilized races. Perhaps you are the result of a Wizard's experiments, or gained your consciousness from some extraordinary magical phenomena. Maybe you accidentally consumed a magical artifact that imbued you with power, or you were transformed into a slime by the curse of a Witch or God. Whatever the reason, you now seek to live out an existence beyond that typical of a slime, joining into society with other intelligent creatures.
Many slimes live in the Underdark due to persecution and mistrust on the surface, but there do exist slimes living out an existence on the surface, either covertly or in communities where they're tolerated, oftentimes with other monsterfolk.
Slime Traits
Slimes are typically look like melted gumdrops in their true form, but they are hardy and durable creatures, complete with a knack for versatility.Ability Score Increase
Your Constitution score increases by 2.
Age
Slimes do not age as other races do, and can theoretically live forever so long as they receive adequate nutrition
Alignment
Slimes tend toward chaos due to their fluid nature, but may be anywhere on the spectrum of good and evil, depending on how they control their instinct to devour everything.
Size
In their true form slimes range anywhere from 2 feet tall to 4 feet tall. Their girth almost always exceeds their height. It is rare for a slime to exceed even 60 pounds, with most weighing in between 20 and 40 pounds.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 25 feet. Most slimes make small hops to travel when moving at full speed.
Blindsight
You have blindsight to a range of 60 feet. You are blind beyond this range.
Homeostatic State
You do not eat or drink as most creatures do, but instead receive nutrients from material dissolved within you. You cannot become intoxicated from ingesting alcohol, and have advantage on saving throws against ingested poison. You do not sleep and magic cannot put you to sleep. Instead, you enter a torpor during which time you remain semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
Devouring Mass
Your acidic body may dissolve that which you absorb. Upon succeeding on a grapple check against against a creature, you may decide to begin dissolving it within you. The creature takes acid damage equal to your unarmed strike + Constitution modifier at the end of each of their turns while they remain grappled. Creatures killed this way are dissolved within you and become valid targets for your Change Appearance trait. You may also choose to devour a creature that died no more than 24 hours ago to gain their form for your Change Appearance trait. If you choose not to begin digesting the target you may instead store it within your mass, following normal rules for carrying capacity. You may also gain a few important memories and a general idea of the creature's will and outlook in life, at the discretion of the DM.
Change Appearance
As an action you may transform your appearance or revert to your natural form. You can't duplicate the appearance of an individual you've never consumed with your Devouring Mass trait, and you revert to your natural form if you die or fall unconscious. You decide what you look like, including your height, weight, facial features, the sound of your voice, coloration, hair length, sex, and any other distinguishing features. Additionally, you always bear a general resemblance to the individual you consumed to gain the mimicry. You may choose to change into a creature up to one size larger than you, in which case you receive the bonuses and penalties associated with your new size category for the duration of your transformation. Your clothing does not transform with you. You may may also take on the appearance of a non-humanoid creature that meets the above criteria, but you do not gain any of its special abilities or stats.
Corrosive Form
You are proficient with your unarmed strikes, which deal 1d4 acid damage on a hit. You also gain resistance to acid damage.
Amorphous
Your fluid body allows you to move through spaces as narrow as 1 inch without squeezing. Non-magical restraints do not work on you, as you can just slip right out. Your racial type is Ooze.
Fluid Body
Do to the fluid nature of your body, you cannot wear conventional armor or jewelry in your true form. Instead, you have a base AC of 13+Constitution modifier.

Posted Jan 19, 2019Would the Unarmed Strikes be Strength-based or would they be Constitution-based like the Devouring Mass ability?

Posted Feb 19, 2019Apologies for the late response, but it is definitely intended to be Constitution based. The one reason I didn't just say "1d4+Con damage" is due to my desire to have it scale for classes like Monk, and open up some more room to play around with feats like Tavern Brawler or Grappler. I'm not sure if there is a more fitting term than "unarmed strike" to denote just the unarmed strike damage die.

Posted Mar 16, 2019I would think Languages would be Slime/Ooze and it would be able to learn new Languages if it eats something, so say your character eats an Elf you could speak and write in Elvish plus any other Language that Elf knows. Plus to speak in True form you would have too know Telepathy or be able to talk with an AoE Telepathy.

Posted Jun 23, 2019I would like to think that there would be sub-races based on what ooze you are. Like one for Black Pudding, Gelatinous Cube, Gray Ooze, and Ochre Jelly. I was thinking that the Ochre Jelly could have the Split reaction like it does in the Monster Manual bu dialed down. Though if this isn't what you thought of, It was just a suggestion.

Posted Jul 2, 2019I get how you can use the unarmored defence from a monk and barbarian, but how would a slime use the sorcerer's ability draconic resilience if it's a slime? Would you still count the bonus or would you not gain an AC that equals to 13 + your dexterity mod? Would you have to use fluid body or would the ability only work in your changed appearance? This is because Draconic Resilience from the sorcerer's draconic bloodline origin makes it so you gain small scales, but how would that work for a slime? I know I'm being very specific on this, but this is basically for any ability that gives a different AC using your class. Anyways, awesome work!!!
I did look at the point value though for checking how fair your slime is, and from my estimation, it's about 7-8 1/2. That's pretty high since 8 is the same as the highest point value from an official race (which is most likely the mountain dwarf), and that race is op. I mean it's pretty fine by me cause I still like it.

Posted Mar 9, 2020How does the inventory work? Do I have a limit to what I can eat and store inside me or does it magically fit in me like if I were a backpack that can fit anything that dosen't go past my encumbrance capacity?
