Homebrew Blood-Cursed 1.1 Species Details
Vampiric Bloodline
In folklore, a blood-cursed, sometimes called a dhampir is a creature that is the result of a union between a vampire and a human. This union was usually between male vampires and female humans, with stories of female vampires mating with male humans being rare. They look human, however, their vampiric heritage has left a clear imprint on their appearance. Blood-cursed typically have pale skin, and refined features, almost porcelain-like. Their eyes are sometimes are strange colors, and reflect light at night, like that of a nocturnal predator. Their canine teeth are sharply pointed, and some are able to produce sharp claws from their hands. Their skin and hair tones cover the full range of human coloration.
Self-Reliant and Suspicious
Blood-cursed usually live alone, or with races who are similarly distrusted, such as tieflings, and half orcs. Sometimes they live among other minority populations in enclaves where they are treated with more respect. Sometimes they live in secrecy, hiding their true nature.
Lacking a homeland, blood-cursed know that they have to make their own way in the world and that they have to be strong to survive. They are not quick to trust anyone who claims to be a friend, but when a blood-cursed's companions demonstrate that they trust him or her, the blood-cursed learns to extend the same trust to them.
Blood-Cursed 1.1 Traits
Blood-cursed share certain racial traits as a result of their vampiric descent. The Hunger
The blood-cursed, like their full blooded vampiric counterparts, must feed on the blood of the living to stay alive. A blood-cursed must feed once every 3 days, or suffer one level of exhaustion, every day thereafter, until they feed. Exhaustion gained in this way can only be removed by feeding, or a wish spell. All exhaustion from blood starvation is removed once they have fed.
As an action, a blood-cursed may attempt a special grapple check called "the embrace", in which they can roll a dexterity or strength check, versus an opponents strength or dexterity. If successful, the blood-cursed may bite and drink from the victim, inflicting 1d4 piercing damage, plus 1d8 necrotic damage. As long as the opponent is grappled at the start of the blood-cursed turn, they can use an action to continue to drain an additional 1d8 necrotic each round. Any necrotic damage done in this manner heals the blood-cursed by that amount. As the blood-cursed gains in power, his bite is more devastating, increasing to 2d8 at level 5, 3d8 at level 11, and 4d8 at level 17.
The blood cursed may use this ability once per short rest.
