Homebrew Deep Troll Species Details

The Deep Troll are distant kin of the Trolls. They live in an ancient place called The Darkreach, a natural sanctuary that lies on the deepest reaches of the Underdark. The Darkreach has a natural light source, which makes it a unique place in the Underdark. The Deep Trolls are a race of hunters sworn to defend the Darkreach from any outside danger.

Now That's a lot of horns

Different from the regular trolls from the surface, the Deep Trolls are a lot more similar to other humanoid species, like humans and elves. They have pointy ears, sightly bigger than Elves. The average adult Troll can reach 7 feet tall, but some say there were trolls that could reach 10 feet. The Trolls have gray skin and a pair of golden horns, that are unique to every individual.

The lifespan of a Troll depends on the season they’ve born. Those who have born during the Light Season, can live up to 200 years, due to their exposure to the artificial moonlight of the Darkreach. Those who have born in the Dark Season mostly can’t live more than 70 years, due to the lack of exposure to the moonlight.

Rainbow Blood

The Deep Trolls have 6 different blood colors, each one of them depends on the month they were born and is a big factor on their social role.

Dark Season

Those who are born on the first two months of the Dark Season are the Rust blooded trolls, which mostly work as soldiers or farmers. Those who are born in the third and fourth month of the Dark Season have golden blood. Most of them end up being crafters or vendors. Those who are born during the last two months of the Dark Season are the olive blooded ones, which work as guardians of the forest of the Darkreach during the Dark Seasons and are experts on demon hunting.

Light Season

The Trolls born during the Light Season have special roles in society. The ones who are born during the first two months have Teal Blood. Most are expected to become law enforcers, maintaining the peace inside Troll Society. There are no trolls born during the third month of the Light Season, during this month, the trolls are completely infertile. The ones born in the fourth month are the cerulean blood, which are specialize in spellcasting. They are allowed to study on the College of Hex free of exchange. The last ones have fuchsia blood, and have a special mutation caused by their exposure to the peak of moonlight during the Moon’s final moments. They have the ability to live underwater. A lot of them work as underwater fishers, hunting the eldritch creatures that lie on the Darkreach’s lakes.
