Homebrew Capybaron (Katagari) Species Details

Physical Description

Capybaron are a fusion of human and Capybara traits (oddly enough). Their fur, short tails, rodent faces, and most other physical characteristics suggest rodent like features and thus they are closer to capybara than man. However, their intelligence, larger size, and more bipedal posture suggest the influence of human traits. They are closer to the size of large Scaeven and thus are usually mistaken for them at first glance since they are extremely rare. Even other Katagari hybrid races barely know of them.  Fur colors range from common brown to a very rare auburn and even scarlet colors. Age is mostly characteristic of how much gray they have near their whiskers. They only have 3 fingers and a thumb to each hand, and each finger ends in a very thick dull claw. 

History

They are direct descendants from a long forgotten Bard who made a pact with an unknown being to share the traits of a random animal he had heard of from a far away place. It is written in legend that the being eventually betrayed this Bard known as the First Capybaron, resulting in his downfall, but not before creating others like him through gregarious mating with others. These people and their ancestors grew to become the Capybaron race. All Capybaron still grow up having deep emotional issues and general fear of the ancient being they call The Ender, reappearing and destroying their race.

Society

Capybaron are extremely Lazy, Trusting, and generally Social. Their hulking presence might dismay common folk and be found strange by upper class citizens, however; Capybaron hold a firm trust to those who have proven to be friends. 

 

Most Capybaron adventurers tend to be more independent than their kin at home, but still hold on a lot to their sense of Trust.

There is a Great Council who decides on Matters involving the whole of the Katagari Clan, that must be abided by or severe punishments are generally handed out. Every Capybaron who comes of age must trek to the Great Council if they wish to be inducted and protected by the Katagari Clan. This council is headed by the one known as The Savitar, a being of immense power and who most Katagari consider their Guardian or Deity. He has been known to wipe out entire families of Katagari for breaking rules set forth by the council. He appears every few decades, and calls upon all Katagari for a great meet located in the ancestral home of Hanalea.

Capybaron live in a more familial society, so the names they have are normally given by the parents at birth:

Male: Otis, Herby, Rodie

Female: Peaches, Spots, Dolly

Size

Capybaron are a little larger than Scaeven on average. They are Small in size.

Alignment

Capybaron are generally aloof and trusting creatures. They usually are more Lawful Good.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet. 

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma increases by 2, and Constitution by 1.

Age

Capybaron mature faster than humans, reaching adulthood by the age of 12, and commonly live to be around 80 years old.

Empty Stomach

You burn through your energy faster than most humanoids and must eat twice as much as a normal human requires each day.

Capy Skills

Capybaron have advantage against becoming charmed thanks to their ancestor, can burrow up to a speed of 30 feet through weak earth, can bite hard with their sharp teeth, and claw with their dull claws. They also inherently know the Prestidigitation spell

Burrowing: While burrowed you are immune to damage that cannot reach you, however if anything affects the earth you are in you will succumb to twice the usual damage. You cannot burrow to avoid attack of opportunity unless disengaged first and cannot attack from below a creature while submerged unless the other creature is also submerged. If trying to move towards something you saw above ground you will move at half speed due to not being able to see where you are going.
