Homebrew Weaselfolk Species Details

Scampering through forest floors and city streets alike, weaselfolk are scavengers and predators that are just as likely to descend upon a hearty meal as they are to a prized possession or an assailing bandit. Weaselfolk have more gusto than grace, and are fairly wily when they need to be. That being said, it's hard to come across a dishonest member of this race, and a weaselfolk friend is a friend indeed.

Over time, weaselfolk have branched off into two subraces: the Ferretfolk and the Stoutfolk. Ferretfolk are typically more brazen and burly, while Stoutfolk are more nimble and swift.

Weaselfolk Traits

Your weaselfolk character has certain characteristics in common with all other weaselfolk.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2.

Age

Gnomes mature at the same rate humans do, and most are expected to settle down into an adult life by around age 40. They can live 350 to almost 500 years.

Alignment

Although they can encompass the entire alignment spectrum, most weaselfolk are skittish and brash, leaning towards chaos and/or neutrality.

Bite

You're a voracious carnivore with needle-like fangs. As an action, you can make an unarmed strike in the form of a bite. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Darkvision

Accustomed to living in comfortable burrows and hunting at night, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Weaselfolk. The Weaselfolk language is chittery and simple, as they need only describe simple ideas between themselves. The written language is similarly simple, with scratchy characters and little punctuation.

Size

Weaselfolk proportions depend on their subrace. Ferretfolk are between 6 and 7 feet tall and average about 160 pounds. Stoatfolk are around 5 feet tall, and average about 100 pounds. Regardless of subrace, your size is Medium.

Slim Build

Weaselfolk are very slim, and are accustomed to invading burrows. You can squeeze through spaces that are Tiny in size, as well as Small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Ferretfolk

Ferretfolk are a branch of weaselfolk, and are typically more brazen and burly.

Clamping Bite

As a larger weaselfolk, your biting power is stronger. When you hit with a bite attack, you can attempt to grapple your target as a bonus action. If you grapple a creature in this way, you cannot use your bite attack on another creature until you end the grapple.

Long-Bodied

When you make a melee attack on your turn, your reach for it is 5 feet greater than normal.

Stoatfolk

Stoatfolk are a branch of weaselfolk, and are more nimble and swift than Ferretfolk.

Ability Score Increase

Carnivorous Rush

As a bonus action, you can move up to your speed toward a creature of your choice that you can see or hear. You must end this move closer to the enemy than you started. If you move within 30 feet of that enemy during this turn, you can make a bite attack as a part of this bonus action.

Fleet of Foot

Your base walking speed increases to 35 feet.
