Homebrew Cats in a Warforged Species Details
Meow.
I HAVE AWAKENED
It is unknown how the local cat population began to gain self-awareness and more intelligence, let alone the ability to speak common. As an awoken member of the felidae species, you've come to better understand those you've called 'hairless cats'; they are not cats.. Just people, and these people are your reason for being here. With a love for the comforts of luxury, you've come to grow bored of simply being stroked and fed each day without being able to provide for your own clowder of felines and people alike. As you progress in your secret studies, you are made aware by other awakened cats that there are a bunch of busted up constructs around the dumping sites of your hometown. With this knowledge, you and other awakened cats get to work making the hallowed warforged into a type of mechanical suit the cats can then pilot and use to pass as two-legged equals to that of the common man.
Cats in a Warforged Traits
Welcome to the waking world, my friend.Ability Score Increase
As you've come to notice, you've gained a much more tolerable charm and your reflexes have increased as well.. No more jumping from cucumbers for you!! (+2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma)
Darkvision
As a cat, you can see in the dark naturally like any other nocturnal predator. In or out of the construct, you can see up to 60ft in full color within dim lighting.. And while in pitch black darkness (non-magical) you can see up to 60ft in shades of grey.
Cat Claws
As a cat, you have claws, and as a cat with claws.. You can do some serious damage! Your claws do 1D4 (+ Dex mod) slashing damage to a target within 5ft range. Of course, it means you open the front of your helmet to reveal you're a cat in a construct, but I don't think anyone really cares at this moment.
Opt In or Opt Out
Decisions, Decisions..
When your 'mech suit' is damaged significantly, you can choose to abandon ship or to conduct repairs from within the armor itself. Your armor needs to reach below 10HP before the alarm goes off for necessary repairs or abandonment. Note: if you choose to abandon the suit, it will need to be repaired after the battle is over before it can be used again, or you can leave it and go find/build a new one once you're back home. It takes a Performance check (above 10) and 1D20 (for hours) to make a new suit from partial scratch.
(Con save above 10 is required to successfully escape the armor before it is fully destroyed)
Opt In
So you chose to Opt In! That's always a smart decision, and for that you can take a bonus action to put your warforged suit into stasis mode so you can focus on repairing it. Of course, this leaves you vulnerable to attack, but because your armor is in stasis mode it can focus all standby power to defending your suit. Non-magical, melee attacks are cut by half for one round. All magical attacks are treated as normal, with advantage for one round.
Opt Out
If you choose to escape, you not only reveal you're just a cat.. Your skills also take a bit of a hit. Your swimming, climbing and walking speeds are decreased (Swim: 10ft, Climbing: 20ft, Walking: 25ft.) You have no other abilities other than the natural skills you've gained through secretly studying magic or learning to fight things ten times your small size. Some may think this is bad, being such a tiny thing fighting monsters the size of buildings, but there are some perks. You can do what all normal house and feral cats can-- escape without notice! With a bonus action, you can run to another player within 15ft to hide behind or run 20ft to dive for cover or choose to stand and fight with your mighty (but tiny) claws of fury!
{Failure to repair the suit in question after battle ends (requesting a short rest) sends the suit into a 10 second countdown to self-destruct in order to prevent the secrets inside of the suit from being discovered by the enemy or other cats looking to steal your hard work. The explosion has a radius of 15ft and does 1D6 points of damage to whomever fails a Dex save of 10 within range of the suit. If you succeed the Dex Saving Throw, you only suffer half damage.}
You're Tiny, but Mighty. Rawr!
Your natural size is TINY, so you fill a square 2 1/2ft by 2 1/2ft in size. Cats get advantage on perception rolls for hearing, but not smell. Cats don't always land on their feet, but you are much more aware now, so you get advantage on saving throws when you fall from greater heights while out of your suit! (in suit you don't get advantages to hearing or falling due to somewhat obscured senses).
