Homebrew Werewolf Species Details
Two-Blooded
Unless there is a full moon, the Cursed Bloodline blend in with any and all humans. They are human themselves, just with a secret they must fight each and everyday. They hold down jobs, go on trips, join teams, and have families themselves...but once the full moon shows it's face, break out the chains and silver or you will have a bloodfest on your hands. Sometimes they can manage their bloodlust, other times it consumes them. The relationship a person has with their wolf is markedly individual; some give into the primal nature of the beast and drift into animalistic sadism, others coexist in a constant struggle between beast and human. Occasionally, rarely, symbiosis can be achieved, but this is extremely rare; where both werewolf and human work together to protect one another.
Physical Description
The Cursed Bloodline have a human form, beast form, and hybrid form:
- Their human form is their “true” form. In humanoid form, The cursed appear no different than their original humanoid species be that human, half-elf, elven or another.
- Their beast form is a perfect reflection of the beast blood that courses through their veins except for the unusual spark of intelligence in their eyes. Their colouring is the same as their colouring in humanoid form, for example hair colour transfers to fur colour .
- In their hybrid form, The Cursed Bloodline resemble their original race except with fur covering their entire body, elongated fingers and nails, elongated feet, and the head of the beast. They can understand speech and speak, but it is more guttural and slow. The hybrid form is more difficult to master, and often requires years of practice to master fully. A werewolf can summon the more simpler elements of their wolf form, such as sliding claws from fingernails, or slightly lengthening their fangs or burning the color of their eyes upon command, briefly acquiring the characteristics of the wolf.
Werewolf Traits
The werewolf is a powerful creature, and you have acquired many characteristics of such a fearsome predator.Weakness to Silver & Ash
You are vulnerable to silvered weapons in all forms. Unwilling to take any chances, werewolves shy away from any type of metal armour in the fear of silver being one of the materials used.
But you are resistant to being poisoned.
Transformation
You can take an action to change into your beast form. You can use this feature twice. You regain expended uses when you finish a long rest. You can revert to your humanoid form by using a bonus action on your turn. You automatically revert if you fall unconscious, drop to 0 hit points, or die.
Full Beast Form:
- You retain your humanoid character statistics but you are only allowed to use your unarmed/Natural strikes.
- You cannot wear armor or wield weapons. You can choose to have the equipment you are wearing either merge into your form or be dropped to the ground. You gain no benefit from equipment that is merged into your form, and do not gain any benefit from armor or equipment.
- You can't cast spells, and your ability to speak or take any action that requires hands is limited to the capabilities of your beast form.
- You may use your Bonus Action to make an additional Claw attack on an enemy target you are attacking.
You can also benefit from partial transformations. At 10th level or higher, you can use an action to transform into a full hybrid form; which is essentially a bipedal version of your beast form, that more closely resembles a furred version of your humanoid form, but with a wolf's maw and claws. At lower levels, you can at will unsheathe your claws from your fingers and use them as a Natural Weapon. You can also induce small effects of the wolf into your humanoid form, such as brightening your eyes with the feral power of the wolf or slightly elongating your teeth (not enough to be a weapon).
Hybrid Form (10th Level or Higher):
- You retain your humanoid character statistics and you can wield one-handed weapons.
- You can choose to have the equipment you are wearing to either merge into your form or be dropped to the ground.
- You can understand and speak languages that you are familiar with, but your speech is more guttural and slow.
- You may use your Bonus Action to make an additional Bite attack on an enemy target you are attacking.
Predatory Stealth
You gain proficiency in Stealth. You have tough, fur-covered skin. When you aren’t wearing armor, your AC is 11 + your Dexterity modifier.
Natural Attacks
As a werewolf, you can use your Claws and Bite as natural attacks.
Claw and bite
Bite (Wolf or Hybrid Form Only). Your fanged maw is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Claw (Wolf or Hybrid Form Only). Your Claw is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d8 + your Dexterity modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Attack damage increase when you reach 5th, 11th, and 18th level
Ability Score Increase
The might of the wolf imbues you with a toughness and a swiftness. You gain +1 to Constitution and +2 to your Dexterity.
Age
There is a constant battle between the regenerative nature of the werewolf's body and the toll that it takes on one's life. Werewolves can be expected to live the same length of time as their humanoid counterparts, but in reality their lifespan is much shorter due to either persecution, the violent toll the transformations take, or many werewolves giving up after too many years of pain.
Alignment
The werewolf alignment can be either good or evil, or anything in between. Some choose to embrace the beast inside and succumb to the bloodlust, while others choose to fight their primal beast and control who they are.
Size
Werewolves share any height range of their humanoid counterparts.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 35 feet.
Darkvision & Keen Senses
You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell. You also have Darkvision, allowing you can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Cursed Skills
You gain proficiency in athletics and perception, and gain advantage on perception checks that rely on smell.
