Homebrew Anchorome Tabaxi Species Details
A legend among the Flickering Forest tabaxi clan held that long ago, an ancestor discovered the ruins of a temple dedicated to Ravanna. Upon digging through them, the ancestor released a spirit of a rogue rakshasa that had been tethered there to protect the temple as punishment. Instead of fending off the intruder, the spirit, tempted by the promise of a physical body, merged with the soul of the tabaxi, imbuing them with wondrous abilities, the distinctive tiger’s coat, and also some of the rakshasa’s devious nature. Fearing that the merged tabaxi would bring evil, they were banished and chased out of Maztica along with some friends and family who refused to abandon the First Imbued. They traveled across the deserts and wastelands and arrived in Anchorome. Now every third generation (number chosen to spite Ravanna since it is not a factor of ten), a Flickering Forest tabaxi is born with a bit of the spirit within them, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. These tabaxi are often more bloodthirsty, mischievous, and occasionally malignant, proclivities increasing with the amount of rakshasa. There are whispers of a few who had enough of the rakshasa within them to wield mystical, shape-shifting powers.
These 'Imbued' tabaxi are often selected to become blood-stalkers, which are the tabaxi equivalent of berserker warriors. Upon initiation, blood-stalkers are given a necklace consisting of two turquoise beads and a dragon's tooth. With experience they are awarded more teeth, with a maximum of nine, and the final tooth is to be won by the tabaxi themselves, torn from the maw of their fallen enemy.
The tiger 'gene' of these Anchorome tabaxi is dominant, meaning all offspring will inherit the tiger coat and/or the third generation curse if at least one of the parents has the tiger coat.
