Homebrew Dragon Touched Species Details
Acheron scrubbed at his face in the dimming light, the cold water streaming down his cheeks. When his hands fell away, he could see his reflection plainly in the water - the black scales which scattered his skin where others might have had freckles, one eye reptilian gold and bright against the bruises blossoming around the eyesocket. He hadn't started the fight, but he had certainly finished it - this blood was not his own.
A familiar whisper came to mind, raspy and quiet as it had always been, the ghost of a long dead tyrant emerging once again. This is why they fear us, the dragon whispered. Because we are without fear, without parallel. Because we are stronger, and they know it.
Draconic Ancestry
Long ago, dragons were common in Zakur, protecting the land from the volcanic magics at its core and the threats of other populations. Their magic sank into the very land they protected, and it began to reach out to the people who they watched over. Thus, the first Dragon Touched were born - children of the other races whose exposure to the magic altered their biology.
Often mistaken for draconic sorcerers, the Dragon Touched bear patches of scales from the magic which impacted them, and often have heterochromatic eyes which reflect their dragon kin. The rest of their appearance reflects the heritage of their parents. As such, the Dragon Touched come in many shapes and sizes, from dwarves with eyes like coins to goliaths with scales that trace their arms like tattoos.
Hunted and Desired
Despite originating from Zakur and being nearly as old as the country itself,
As a result of their mixed welcomes across countries, many of the Dragon Touched either go to places where they will be accepted or choose to wander. They create close knit groups not unlike dragonborn clans and take to a nomadic life, utilising the talents of the varied races among them to survive. Though some have tried to create cities for the Dragon Touched, the projects are often ill-fated thanks to Zakuran military efforts, and many who are not nomads often find themselves in thieves' guilds to create a living under the radar. On rare occasions, a Dragon Touched will live their life publically and seek official positions and homesteading in cities, but such cases are rare and often find themselves at odds with the rest of their more subtle kin.
Dragon Touched Traits
You have been touched by draconic magic, which has left you with a variety of traits you share with other dragon touched.Age
Though the Dragon Touched are a unique race, their age is affected by their mortal parentage. As such, their lifespans vary, but tend to be slightly extended from that of their mortal parentage.
Size
Though the physicality of a Dragon Touched is impacted by their mortal heritage, they tend to be slightly taller and heavier than others of their race. Your size is Medium.
Alignment
Many Dragon-Touched find themselves hunted or in complicated positions across both continents. As such, while they veer toward lawful devotion to their clan when it exists, many nomads end up far more opportunistic and chaotic from necessity. However, good and evil both can be found among them, and no definitive alignment is more common than another.
Draconic Ancestry
Your brush with Draconic magic has physically marked you with patches of scales reflective of your draconic ancestry. You have scales of a chosen colour (Red, Black, Blue, Brass, Copper, Bronze, Gold, Green, Silver or White) which appear in vitiligo-like patches across your body and grant you a base AC of 13+Dex when not wearing armour.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Draconic, Common, and one extra language of your choice.
Draconic Knowledge
You have been touched by ancient draconic magic which sometimes grants you guidance in moments of need. When you fail an ability check, you can use this trait to roll again and take either roll. Once you have used this trait, you can't do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
Dragon's Eyes
The influence of draconic magic has improved your senses. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern colour in darkness, only shades of grey. At third level, the draconic influence improves your ability to sense danger and you gain blindsight with a range of 10 feet.
