Homebrew Axolotl Species Details
Ancient and culture-heavy, the Axolotl are an amphibious humanoid race, freedom-loving, and fish-looking, easily mistaken for monsters.
Architecture: extremely Nahuatl/Mesoamerican, even in the more modern setting- very cubic, simple, building on hills and having a lot of elevations
Farming: chinampa pools in circular formations on the edge of towns, simple crops
Eating: due to having very small teeth, the axolotl usually eats smaller things that are possible to swallow whole
Food Culture: it is a common ritual that an axolotl cuts off a piece of themself (usually a finger) and give it to someone as a sign of friendship and to accept this gift you eat the body part given- mostly for parties or celebrations- however, it is EXTREMELY disrespectful to give flesh of others instead of your own
Evolution: gained some teeth for communication, gills changed to take in exclusively oxygen for out-of-water living, still have lateral lines (vestigial)
Sound Culture: due to the vestigiality of lateral lines, they have been used in a more culture-oriented manner with music, especially the acoustic guitar being a preferred instrument (due to the easily sensed vibrations)
Racism: due to many complications, axolotls are commonly discriminated like goblins or kobolds, easily mistaken as monsters when not in a modern setting
