Homebrew Dillokin Species Details

Born of an ancient curse, the dillokin live nomadic lifestyles in warm, sandy climates. Dillokin family units are called crocks, and typically consist of 3-10 dillokin. They don't often commune with other races, only interacting when crossing paths while travelling. They are often mistaken for the common armadillo, due to sharing many physical characteristics such as an elongated snout, and a shell of interlocking plates.

Dillokin have personal names given at birth, but they often use a nickname or term of endearment. The nickname might recall an event or center on a habit.

Dillokin Traits

Your wilderness-adept nature manifests in a variety of traits you share with other dillokin.

Natural Armor

Due to your shell and the shape of your body, you are ill-suited to wearing armor. Your shell provides ample protection, however; it gives you a base AC of 16 (your Dexterity modifier doesn't affect this number). You gain no benefit from wearing armor, but if you are using a shield, you can apply the shield's bonus as normal.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Age

Dillokin have a lifespan of 20-30 years, maturing at age 5.

Size

Dillokin are much smaller than humans, standing between 2 and 3 feet tall and averaging ~70 pounds. Your size is Small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet. You also have a burrowing speed of 10 feet.

Ball Up

You can curl into a ball as an action. Until you emerge, you gain a +5 bonus to AC, and you have advantage on Dexterity and Constitution saving throws. While balled up on a flat surface, your speed increases by ten. If the surface is not flat, your speed is halved moving up the slope, and doubled while moving down it. You have disadvantage on strength saving throws, you can't take reactions, and the only action you can take is a bonus action to return to an upright state.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Duunish. Duunish is a language spoken by those who call the wilderness their home. Duunish struggles to convey complex thought and emotion, and sounds brief and accented to those who do not understand itn
