Homebrew Slime-Folk Species Details

Long forgotten is the story of Montacilio Dragonhand ―a high elven wizard, who despite all his power died quite miserably.

He started off with little power of his own, weak but intelligent enough and clever in spades. Too clever, some would say. When his own magic inevitably failed him, he sought a different means to greatness and discovered a power hard to match in items cherished by those around him. And so he began to collect. Little things, loved things, for lies and false favors Montacilio had no true way of granting.

After a while, he became great.

And in the end, he died.

But Montacilio lives on, in a way ―inside the queen of the Slime-Folk. She ate him, his home and all the treasures he kept hoarded there like a dragon. And from it all, she gained knowledge and a human form. And she spread that knowledge and all that came with it, as best as she was able to, splitting until she was no longer alone in her sentience.

Now, she sits at the heart of her small kingdom ―her children, often no smarter than a human infant, play and frolic and eat as she had done all those years ago.

Few people remember the story of Montacilio Dragonhand, and how he was eventually eaten by a slime. But the Slime-Folk have not forgotten.

Predator

The queen of the Slime-Folk gained her intelligence and skill in magic by eating an ancient wizard and his collection of magical artifacts. And just as she did, they grow by eating others as well. Roll 1d4 (the size of the dice increases for enemies with more skills) and so long as you roll a 2 or higher you gain a single random magical spell or skill that person knew.

*Can only be done on enemies who are at 1/8th of their original health.

**Newly acquired Magic Spells will replace old ones if there is no room.

Swift Swim

Slimes and oozes typically don't need to breathe. Moving through water is little effort in that regard. Don't try to use it cross an ocean though.

Ability Score Increase

You're a slime, your entire body is basically your hand.

Breathless

No lungs or hearts to pierce, no bones to break. They don't have blood and because of the lack of internal organs, unlike the rest of us, they don't need to breathe.

Slimey Constitution

Slime-Folk are difficult to kill, not because they are particularly tricky opponents ―the vast majority are no smarter than a human baby. It's the vulnerabilities. They don't have many weak spots.

Swords won't do you any good. Go for an arrow or a spear. Never forget that all Slime-Folk started off as oozes.
