Homebrew Anglerfolk Species Details
Savage and cunning, the Anglerfolk lay in wait, subtly luring their prey closer with their before quickly clamping their deadly maw on their unsuspecting prey.
Anglerfolk are nomadic predators, rarely living in even small communities. This is not to say they are always alone; the creatures referred to as Anglerfolk are all female, and are often accompanied by tiny parasitic males which look more like growths than mates.
Nightmares of the depths, Anglerfolk are feared and avoided by almost all other aquatic and coastal races, including their distant relatives, the Locathah. The bravest Triton warriors are frequently sent out hunt and slay Anglerfolk, who are seen as demonic adversaries of their gods.
Not all Anglerfolk conform to their kin's primal and merciless ways. Occasionally a rare individual seeks to integrate into another aquatic culture, though they are usually met with suspicion, fear, and distrust.

Age
Anglerfolk mature to adulthood by the age of 10 but have been known to live up to 70 years.

Anglerfolk endure a harsh existence that demands each of them to be ruthless and cunning to survive. They tend to be chaotic evil.
Size
Anglerfolk stand around 4 feet tall and average about 100 pounds. Your size is Medium
Speed
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swim speed of 30 feet.
Natural Armor
You have tough, scaly skin. When you aren’t wearing armor, your AC is 12 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
Limited Amphibiousness
You can breathe air and water, but you need to be submerged at least once every 4 hours to avoid suffocating.
Bite
Your fanged maw is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Lockjaw
You may use your mouth, instead of your hands, whenever you attempt to grapple a creature.
At the start of each of your turns, you can deal 1d4 piercing damage to a creature grappled by your mouth. While you are grappling a creature in this way, you are unable to speak or use your mouth in any other way.
Natural Lure
You are able to illuminate your esca to light your way through the dark depths. As an action you can cause your esca to shed bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet. When lit, you may use a bonus action to alter the light by decreasing the radius of bright and/or dim light, though you may not increase either past its initial radius.
Additionally, when hidden in darkness you may use your bonus action to instead have your esca create a 5-foot are of dim light directly in front of you. If you are in an area of dim light, you instead create a 5-foot area of bright light. This light does not directly effect your ability to avoid detection, though it may lure otherwise unaware creatures towards the source of light.
When a creature unaware of your presence interacts with the 5-foot area of dim or bright light that you create with this feature, you may use your reaction to make a melee weapon or bite attack against them with advantage. On hit you may attempt to grapple the creature with your mouth as part of the same reaction.
Sneaky
If you surprise a creature and hit it with an attack on your first turn in combat, the attack deals an extra 2d6 damage to it. You can use this trait only once per combat.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Aquan and Common.
