Homebrew Abyssian Species Details

 

Abyssian Traits

Creatures born in the abyss are more at home in or near natural water.

Abyssal Spellcasting

You can choose two abyssal spells at 1st level and gain another one every level that is a multiple of 5.

 

  • Draconic Vortex: you summon a vortex of water that deals damage to an enemy you can see within 60 feet. The target makes a dex. save and takes 2d6 cold damage on a failed save and takes half as much on a successful one.
  • Sounds of the Abyss: The target makes a wisdom save and takes 2d6 psychic damage on a failed save and half as much on a successful one.
  • Lure of the deep: You summon a field of magically darkness in a 100 foot tall 20 foot radius centered on yourself that you can see through. Creatures within 10 feet of you when you cast this take 2d6 necrotic damage. The only light that can be seen by other creatures through this darkness is bioluminescence.
  • Summoned Creature: you summon a creature of the abyss in the form of a ghostly light. This deals 2d6 radiant damage on creatures in the radius of the attacking light
  • Liquid Step: teleport to a point you can see within 80 feet in a strange fashion. You become a liquid form and splash down onto the ground. Then you spray up from where you teleport to and become solid again.
  • Abyssal Strength: using the soothing properties of water you give one creature of your choice resistance to fire damage and a regeneration effect healing 1d6 health after each of the creature's turns for one minute
  • Wrath of the Sea: launch a strange lightning bolt with liquid qualities at a creature of your choice within 30 feet. This deals 1d6 lightning damage.
  • Luck of the Ocean: Cast this spell on yourself and attack rolls against you have disadvantage.
  • Fishy Navigation: You cannot be lost at sea when you cast this spell.

Some of these spells are powered up when near a natural source of water. All spells listed below gain the effects and deal twice as much damage.

  • Wrath of the Sea: creatures effected by this "liquid lightning" take 1d6 thunder damage at the end of each of their turns for 30 seconds
  • Lure of the Deep: You leech the health of all creatures hit and regain health equal to the total damage you deal. You gain temporary hit points equal to 1/4 of the extra hp healed rounded up.
  • Liquid Step: when teleporting you can now walk on water as if it's solid and now are in a liquid form resisting bludgeoning, piercing, slashing, and fire damage, but you now freeze when you take 20 cold damage, giving you a solid form again.
  • Draconic Vortex: Creatures that fail the save are knock prone.
  • Sounds of the Abyss: Creatures that fail the save become tracked by sea creatures whenever they go out to sea. This can be removed with a dispell magic spell or something similar

Appearance

You have webbed hands and feet. Your skin can be a variety of colors and also transparent, revealing your organs. Many people of the world are afraid of you because you are new to the surface. Many Abyssians have scales but some are more like amphibians rather than reptiles. their eyes are the normal human eye colors as well as a deep red blue and green.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age

Abyssians mature quickly and live somewhat long lives. Abyssians reach adulthood at 14 years old and live up to 200 years old.

Alignment

Abyssians tend to more orderly rather than chaotic in their settlements on land in order to get used to the new environment however Abyssians down in the abyss seem to not care for order and chaos or good and evil.

Size

Abyssian people are about the same average height of humans around 5'7". Abyssians weigh 300lbs on average Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet and your base swim speed is 30 feet.
