Avariel

Avariel (winged elves) are a magical people of otherworldly grace, living in the world but not entirely part of it.

Description

Avariel (often known as "Winged Elf") were among the first of the elf races to migrate to Faerun. They are more delicate than their earth-bound cousins, with hollow bones to aid their flight. They have pale skin, often porcelain white. Their eyes are slightly larger than normal and range in color from brilliant blues to green or purple. Most notable of all of the avariel's physical characteristics are their wings. Broad and feathered, they can span up to 10 feet when fully extended. They are usually white, but could be black, brown or speckled. Avariel are known to practice the dyeing of wing tips for both fashion and indicating social status.

Though many have been found on Faerun, the Elven Diaspora in ages past has left pockets of them on many worlds, often in great aeries at the tops of the tallest mountains.

Avariel prefer loose fitting clothing, usually flowing and designed to flap in the wind as they fly. Rarely will they wear any form of armor that is not light weight as it restricts their flight. For weapons they tend towards spears and bows, preferring to remain at a distance from their foes, though some have developed a particular martial arts style utilizing claws on their hands and feet, their attacks mimicking birds of prey.

Avariel Traits

Winged Elves or the Winged Folk.

Ability Score Increase. One Ability Score increases by 2 and one other score of your choice increases by 1.

Age. Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. Avariel live longer than most elves. They typically claim adulthood and an adult name at around 100 and can live for 1000 years.

Size. Avariel range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender but muscular builds. Your size is Medium.

Avariel (Winged Elf) Traits

As an Avariel elf player character, you have the following traits.

Creature Type

You are a Humanoid. You are also considered an elf for any prerequisite or effect that requires you to be an elf.

Size

You are Medium.

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 feet.  You have a flight speed equal to your movement speed as long as you are not wearing medium or heavy armor.

Wings

You have a pair of wings that grant you a flight speed equal to your walking speed. Broad and feathered, they can span up to 10 feet when fully extended. They are usually white, but could be black, brown or speckled.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of yourself as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.

Fey Ancestry

You have advantage on saving throws you make to avoid or end the charmed condition on yourself.

Eagle Eyes

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Additionally, the Avariel's Eyes have developed to be able to notice fine details at long ranges, and have Advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that involve being able to see things at a distance.

Trance

You don’t need to sleep, and magic can’t put you to sleep. You can finish a long rest in 4 hours if you spend those hours in a trancelike meditation, during which you remain conscious.

Wing Buffet

As a bonus action the Avariel can buffet a creature with their wings. The target, if it is sized no more than one category larger than your own, must succeed on a Strength Saving Throw (DC 8+Strength Modifier+Proficiency Modifier) or be knocked prone.

You may use this ability a number of times equal to your Proficiency Modifier and it refreshes after a Long Rest
