Homebrew Akadii Species Details
Akadii's are a race of parasites. They are demi-aquatic, living in rivers and lakes when not in possession of a host, though they can exist on land. They are very small, only about an inch tall, and 3 inches long when fully matured. They have specialized tongues, with nerves connecting from their brain to the tongue in order to send brainwaves through their mouths. This is because they "possess" people they can latch onto; by biting into the necks of those they come in contact with and using their specialized tongue, they override the brainwaves of the new host, effectively snuffing it out. If an Akadii successfully possesses someone, they take over that body. Once an Akadii leaves the host, the victim dies. Undead creatures/humanoids are unable to be possessed. Those possessed by Akadii have blood-red eyes, sharper teeth, and a notable line along the creases of their mouth that can unhinge, similarly to a snake.
Waterborne Parasite
When Akadii aren't possessing a host, they are very leech-like in shape, with no facial features other than a large mouth with many rows of teeth. They also have 2 small "arms" with 3 blunt claws on each hand, used to hold onto hosts and prey. These hands are also webbed. Their skin colors range from pearly white to off-white to light pink, though it's not uncommon to find some brighter red ones. An albino Akadii usually has pure white skin, though this can also range to a light blue or purple. They mature at around 10 years old and can live for up to 60 years in good conditions.
Pests
Most Akadii are seen as either pests or evil beings; and in most respects, that's correct. Although, some Akadii have been possessing the same host for decades now, and simply want to live a true life. They are not barbarians, nor are they animals. They can best be described as a hyper-intelligent parasite that specializes in deception.
Akadii Names
Akadii have names that relate to the environment around them and are chosen by themselves. Names such as Trout, Seagrass, Turtle, and Catfish are common for most Akadii, though when possessing a host they like to take on alias' for as long as they possess them. A few Akadii like to keep their alias as their name as well.
Akadii Traits
Having to stay hidden in plain sight isn't easy, so Akadii have developed certain traits to help them blend in while possessing a host.Naturally Stealthy
As an Akadii, you need to know how to hide in risky situations. You can attempt to hide even when obscured by a creature one size larger than you.
Darkvision.
Akadii's are waterborne creatures; they've adapted to murky waters that other creatures wouldn't be able to see their own limbs in. You can see in dim light as if it were bright light and darkness as if it were dim light up to 60 feet in front of you, though you cannot see color in these light settings, only shades of grey.
