Homebrew Upyr Species Details

 

Born from death, the Upyr is a race that finds great joy in manipulating and seducing the living. An Upyr is created, rather than birthed, due to something gone wrong in their death — beit an improper burial, an untimely death, a sinful life, or by simply practicing sorcery during their lifetime. While they are undead creatures, they still feel emotion, using it to their advantage against others.

Undead Vitality

Upyr typically look like how they were before death, meaning they could have been any race whatsoever. For instance, if they were a Tiefling, they would still bear their horns and pupil-less eyes, and whatever hair color they had before death. Their undead nature leads to any blemishes, scars, or birth defects to be healed or removed, and their skin does tend to be more pale than other races. Since Upyr are undead, they are cold to the touch, do not age and "live" until destroyed.

Charming and Seductive

Most Upyrs indulge in sinful activities, and are generally very charismatic, capturing the attention of others with their words and looks. Most don’t know that they are dealing with an Upyr when they meet one, as they look exactly how they did upon their death, aside from scars, blemishes, or birth defects being removed. They enjoy luring others in and feasting upon blood to keep their vitality.

 

Upyr Traits

Upyr are an undead race that survives off the living.

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma score increases by 2, your Constitution score increases by 1, and choose an additional score to increase by 1.

Age

Upyr are undead; they do not age and live until destroyed.

Alignment

An Upyr's alignment usually depends on their alignment before death, however it is not always held to that standard and may deviate from prior beliefs due to the circumstance of their death.

Size

Upyr are about the same size and build as humans. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Undead Resistance

You have resistance to cold damage.

Fear of the Risen

You know one warlock cantrip of your choice. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the suggestion spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the vampiric touch spell twice with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one language of your choice, typically what you would have spoken before your death.
