Homebrew Dracopedes Species Details

Long ago, the  men and dragons of Alveris hated each other. The Draconic god Tracuros, not wanting  to see his children killed by men, devised a plan to stop the bloodshed. He gathered all of his most desparate human worshippers - the poor, the starving, the sick, ect., and offered them to become dragons. They might not fit into human society, but as dragons, they would have or have the ability to gain wealth, power, status, and everything else they could ever desire. Almost all accepted, seeing this as a suprising interaction from their usually hands-off god.

Tracuros planned to turn his subjects into dragons, and then use them to negotiate peace between the dragons and humans. To make them into dragons, he used the bones of previous dragons, and attempted to fuse the mind and soul of a human with the bones and scales of a dragon. He had heard of beings such as Dragonborn and Half- Dragons being found across the multiverse, and expected his creation to be even grander. However, the experiment went very strangely.

Although he had created something new, it wasn’t exactly what he had hoped for. These beings that stood before him were mostly human like from the waist up. However, their lower body was entirely Draconic, with four legs and a tail. That day was the birth of the first Dracopedes.

Dragon-Worshipping Warriors

Dracopedes are almost entirely human from the waist up. They have scaly arms, a few scales on their torso’s, and usually have horns poking throught their hair. However, Their torsos, faces, hair, and organs are human. Their Draconic creations, however, show very obviously at their legs. They, very similarly to centaurs, have an animalistic body that their humanoid torso sits atop. However, unlike them, the animalistic body is Draconic in nature, not equine. They have four draconic legs, a tail, and other Draconic lower features. From head to claw-tipped toe, Dracopedes stand usually at around 7 to 8 feet tall, can weigh around 2,100 pounds, and are usually around 8 feet long.

Dragons are highly respected by Dracopedes, as the children of Tracuros. Dragons usually either find Dracopedes fascinating, entertaining, or respectable, and are known to usually coexist with Dracopedes. Dragons play a huge part in every day life for Dracopedes. In fact, according to tradition, a potential Dracopede cheiftain must go through the proper ritual to ascend and become a half-dragon before he is officially accepted as leader.

Dracopedes come in all shapes and sizes, similar to their dragon relatives. Many have different colors, such as -bright red, green, blue, or white, lustrous black, sapphire blue, emerald green, topaz colored, crystal white, or amethyst purple, as well as  metallic gold, silver, brass, copper, or bronze.

Hardened and Strong

Dracathar, the homeland of Dracopedes, is a land of constant change and destruction. It was once inhabited by humans, including those who would later become the first Dracopedes. Dracathar’s elemental power, however, along with its deep population of dragons, caused many humans to either leave or die. Dracopedes remained, however, for they were strong enough to survive all of the their home’s environments, and were able to coexist with most dragons.

Dracathar has every environment a dragon could ask for, from deep swamps and forests, to freezing plains, to giant mountains and volcanoes. This incredible variation in landscape makes Dracathar a very hard place to live. Each town or city is different from the others, and each has adapted to it’s surrounding climate. Dracopedes are like their homes, hardy and unrelenting. To a Dracopede, giving up and accepting defeat is a worse fate than death. They believe their home is a challenge made by Tracuros and the other Draconic gods.

Dracopedes are strong, prideful creatures that love a good fight. Many find interest in arcane arts or fighting, or even entertainment. They use their strength and Draconic abilities in both combat and routine life.

Dracopede Names

Dracopedes usually have personal names given at birth, and a Draconic last name. The first name is given to sound fierce and to distinguish the individual. However, their last name is given due to something an ancient ancestor did (for example, if an ancient Dracopede was a skilled assasin, his family name would become Loexvicayosin, or “Deady-Blade”)

Alignment

Some Dracopedes tend to serve their gods, especially their creator, Tracuros. Others, however, serve Alibu, the Draconic Demon. And, a couple few serve no one and simply live their lives as they wish. To put it simply, most Dracopedes choose good or evil, and only a few ever choose neutrality.

Your max walking speed is 40 feet.

Elemental Connection

Although Dracopedes cannot breathe an elemental breath, they still can bend the Draconic elements to their will. Depending on their draconic ancestry, they can add 1D6 of elemental damage to their attack rolls with melee weapons. This damage increases to 2D6 at level 4, 3D6 at level 8, 4D6 at level 12, and 5D6 at level 16. However, the enemy being atracked can make a DC 10 save to negate the imbuement’s damage. This affect lasts for one minute or until the weapon lands a successful attack

This is can only be done twice until a long rest. Choose one type of dragon from the Draconic Ancestry table. Your weapon imbuement is determined by the dragon type, as shown in the table.

Draconic Body

On a successful hit from an enemy, tell the DM to roll a D4. If the D4 gets a 3 or 4, the attack hits your draconic lower body, not your soft torso. This will half the successful attack’s damage. This ability can only be used twice per long rest. However, as another affect, you having to lug around your draconic lower body, making you take up 2 spaces on the board instead of one, and you must squeeze to get through a door meant for a medium or lower sized creature. You are technically considered medium, but just barely.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
